Defrosting competition ??

When we have several heat pumps in operation, it is possible to compare different parameter settings and see the differences over time. Especially during defrost of AW-HP's the consequences of wrong control strategies or wrong system designs are only to be seen over longer periods. The consequences are often ending in up with to much ice on the fins of the evaporators. For FENAGY this is handled by defrosting with our effective glycol defrosting system. Right now we are looking at optimal defrosting time and time delay between defrost. Too long periods with defrost is an energy loss, however too short defrost causes system failure. Tonight we will have strong snow fall in the Northern part of DK. We will of course investigate the snow impact of the fans. It is good to see these numbers that show that there are limitations in performance for air source heat pumps and that it is important to know where those limits are. The system COP is still very good at 2.4C when defrost is running. It will be interesting to see what sCOP will be for these two installations when outside air temp drops down to 0C, -5C, -10C, etc. (with defrost off / on). Cheers!!! ??
