Defining Your Ideal Client

It's very difficult to market your program or service if you don't know who you're speaking to! That's why I always begin my copywriting clarity sessions with defining my ideal client. When you travel to another country, it's important to learn about the culture, social cues, what's appropriate and what's inappropriate, some of the language, and opening yourself up to new experiences! So as heart-centred entrepreneur, when you post on Facebook to interact with your people, how do you speak to them? You must learn their language first!

Describe to me your ideal client. Tell me who she (or he) is, what she does, her favourite places to hang out, where she's at in her business, how much she values assistance in her business (i.e. if you offer mindset coaching, how important is that to her? If you build websites or do branding, how essential is that service to her?), what her struggles and fears currently are, what her deeper struggles and fears are (not just the surface ones), what she's willing to do to overcome said struggles and fears, how she speaks, what her values are, what dominates her thoughts, what makes her light up with joy, her 'why' (why is she in business?), and anything else that you think belongs to this character profile of your ideal client. Your ideal client is a real person with family, friends, struggles, passions, joys, and everything else that you experience as a human being.

Keep this document after you've written it out and give it to your next copywriter! This is what I ask of my clients through conversation but it's so valuable to be able to glance at it yourself when you approach someone new. Learn her language and you'll be able to really connect and isn't that what entrepreneurship is all about? How can you start getting clear on your ideal client right now?
