As first-generation women of color, we often face a lot of firsts on our own.?
To check that our careers are headed in the right direction we’ll follow what our?parents, friends or society tells us is required to be successful instead of looking to ourselves for the answer.?
Growing up I was often told I needed to focus on a traditional career path and to say goodbye to my less conventional career dreams.?
That stability, salary, and title were more important than all else. Even if it meant pursuing or staying in a career I didn't fully love.?
The answer is…?YOU define what your version of success looks like.?
There’s an unspoken (and spoken) pressure to climb the corporate ladder to show you’re successful.?Trust me… I’ve been there.?
But the trick is to not let a specific salary or title be the sole driving force that decides your next career move.?
We get caught up in the idea of a new job or promotion and forget about what made us unhappy in our last role or what’s really important to us.?
When you're considering a career pivot or promotion,?it's crucial to identify your non-negotiables and values?to be clear on what you want so you can be happier in your next role.?
Non-negotiables can be work-life balance, management style or company culture. And values could be innovation, employee development or community impact.
I work with my clients to take inventory of their past and current work experiences to understand what’s important to them and motivates them.?

Once this is clear it makes it easier to identify what you want out of your next role or company.?
You’ll accelerate your career and eliminate spinning out once you’re clear on what you want, willing to compromise on and what's non-negotiable.?
Working together?you’ll stop doubting your decision-making, and build belief and confidence?in yourself to make informed decisions about your career that aligns with your values and goals. Increase your chances of being happier in your next role and do what’s best for you versus what your family, friends, or society says.?
If want to work together and are ready for your next career move, book a call to learn about private coaching.?My clients are amazing aspiring women of color leaders ready to accelerate their careers.?
They?don’t settle and confidently make career moves?that align with their values while networking their way to any job they want.?
On the call we’ll review your goals, what you’ve tried already, and the support you’re looking for.?You’ll get to ask any questions and regardless if we end up working together?walk away with a customized coaching plan.?
