Defining success moving forward

Defining success moving forward

Success can be defined by the individual. In the past, success has been often equated with material wealth, status, and power. People have been encouraged to chase after these things as measures of success, often at the expense of their own personal fulfillment, relationships, and health. Other areas to note that play a role in defining success comes from television, social media, celebrities, status, income or title. This has impacted all ages.

In the future, success might mean something different altogether. As we become more aware of the limitations and drawbacks of traditional notions of success, we might redefine success to include other values that reflect the changing times.

The word success is not the real problem. It is the images that are aligned to the definition of success that harms the human psychology. Most people strive for success like a sprinter and don’t have the endurance to endure.

The process or steps to be successful is the key. Success for the few is an ongoing marathon that doesn’t stop. An athlete who wins a championship loves the taste of victory so much, that they will put in the work to try and win another championship. The evidence and blueprint is there. Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Derrick Jeter, Tom Brady, Dion Sanders, Bill Russell or Kobe Bryant. Success to them is striving for excellence to maximize their potential in order to separate themselves from others to be memorable and the best at their craft.

Here are a few possible ways we might rethink success in the future:

1. Creativity:?People who can think outside the box, come up with new ideas, and take risks might be more successful than those who merely follow orders.

2. Purpose: Prioritize your work that has a deeper meaning and makes a positive impact on society.

3. Happiness:?Take time off for self-care, your mental health, prioritize relationships / human connections and seek out experiences that bring them joy.

4. Sustainability: Pursuing practices that are sustainable and reduce our carbon footprint.

5. Diversity: Creating workplaces that are inclusive and welcoming to people of all backgrounds.

Success in the future will likely be different from how we think about it today. By redefining success to include values that reflect the changing times, we can create a more sustainable, inclusive, and fulfilling world for ourselves and future generations.
