Defining our Strengths, Values and Personal Brand
We often come across the words, strengths, values, and personal brand in our daily lives. The challenge is that most of us are unable to define them and wonder how do we start the process of discovering our strengths, and values to create our personal brand?
What steps are essential to identify our strengths??
To find out our strengths, we need to ask ourselves two questions –??
a) What tasks or activities we are good at???
b) Do we enjoy performing them???
If we are proficient in something and it energizes us, it is our strength, and we should invest time in enhancing our skills. Similarly, we should move away from a task that we are less skilled in and drains our energy.??
How do we identify our values??
To identify our values, a different set of questions need to be answered. Some questions that could help us navigate towards the appropriate answers include:?
Who is our role model???
Why do we admire them???
What are some of their qualities that inspires us???
What are their behaviors and mindsets that we would like to follow in our own life???
Additionally, we need to think about feelings and situations that inspire us to take action. What was the result of taking those actions? Lastly, we focus on times when we are authentic. Authenticity occurs when we are in alignment with our values, and it is a clear indication of functioning and creating experiences in life through our use of values. As we reflect, we write down words that materialize in our minds. If there is difficulty in coming up with words, we can always search for a list of values on the internet and then use those that fit our scenario. It is surprising to realize what words can be included, as we normally would not have thought of them as values.
What are the blocks that help build our brands??
Finally, we have arrived at a stage where we can build our unique personal or professional brand. Knowing our core strengths and values allows us to know our unique selling point (USP) and what we bring to the table. That is one part of the equation.??
The second part is to answer some more questions! What problem do we solve for the world? What are we perceived to be an expert on? What are we passionate about? The intersection of our psychographics and how we appear in the external world is our path to figuring out our life’s purpose. Once we have that clarity, we can build our brand by writing our bio and narrating that story on our resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and personal websites. We can also go a step ahead and write our bio 5 years from now to work backwards and determine what we need to do to advance to that level.???
Now that we understand who we are, what we want and where we want to go, it is easy to develop habits, set goals, and make 5-year plans for our life.?
