Defining Leadership

Leadership is the art and discipline of influencing other's way of life giving them a sense of purpose, direction and motivation to do what needs to be done. It is not bounded by preconceptions, perceptions, and definitions of what makes it good or bad. It is simply the art of leading others and making a difference in their lives.

In defining leadership this way, we dispute the biases of those who have define what leadership is based on their preconceptions, encounters and experiences. Thus, we say that Lau Tzu is a leader and and so was Sun Tzu; Joe Biden is a leader and so was Vladimir Putin; Dalai Lama is a leader and so was Francis I, among all others. Defining leadership beyond and above ideologies, politics , religions and other factors in our ways of life will give us may be a better understanding of what leading others mean.

Leadership then, is simply the art and discipline of influencing others.
