As part of our series “3 QUESTIONS TO”, our founder Corinna Egerer (CE) had the chance to interview Stefan Grasmann (SG) of Zühlke Group .?

CE: Stefan, you are hosting the Institutional DeFi Track at Frankfurt Digital Finance: why is this topic so important?

SG: With Decentralized Finance (DeFi), we see a completely new, complementary approach for building financial applications:DeFi applications are designed in a decentralized, permissionless and transparent fashion. Additionally, they are extremely composable, often compared to “lego building blocks” of finance. These attributes are possible due to the open nature of public permissionless Blockchain systems, their programmability and commonly accepted token standards like ERC20. The question remains open, how institutional players should handle these innovations. They might fight these innovations, they might learn from them or they might adopt them for their own purpose.

CE: What exactly will you discuss with your panelists?

SG: We invited several market participants to discuss which opportunities and road blockers we see in adopting DeFi for institutional players. We will try to answer questions like these:

1. What can/should/must institutional players learn from DeFi?
2. How can DeFi services be made available to institutional investors?
3. How can institutional players use DeFi services for their own purpose?
4. Can and should institutional players augment DeFi services with their own ?? ? tokenized assets?

SG: From my point of view, Frankfurt Digital Finance is the ideal place to discuss these topics since the conference attracts the most innovative minds of Europe’s financial ecosystem – from established incumbents and fintechs alike. This is the right audience to trigger a vivid and open discussion on how innovative topics like tokenization and digital assets can improve our financial systems and generate value for all participants.?
