In Defense of Dreams

In Defense of Dreams

I wrote this poem to remind myself that the?true?power of dreams is not what happens when, or if, they come true,?but in the truths that happen while we're in the thick of struggling to achieve them. On a day when our country, our world, is being forced to question the validity of our dreams, I speak out in?support of the dreamer. I say,?follow your dreams!?The real prize may be less in the dreams themselves and more in what they?lead you to become.

Dreams It Seems

The daily drift of dreams has died

As castle turrets, torn by tide

Are smoothed again upon the beach

?

Where wind and wave presume to teach

And hands cry out for castles past—

Dreams, it seems

Aren’t meant to last

?

But must be build anew each day

Built and loved, then swept away

‘til swollen eyes have come to see

Beyond teardrop asymmetry

?

That castles lost now claim a part

Of fabrics woven into the heart

The secret of life’s tapestry;

?

The Builder

Built

By ceaseless sea
