Defective Parts

If you need help with making sure you always have the parts you need when you need them, contact me to see if I can solve your problems in 30 days at [email protected].

A customer of mine discovered a batch power distribution modules were defective. I order and supply those parts to them because they have a long lead time. After receiving a call about it, I immediately went to the stock of parts I keep on hand. Because I order these regularly, I have modules from different production?runs sitting on my shelf. I quickly found replacement?modules that weren't defective. I shipped those parts out that day and my customer received them the next day. Because I keep stock of those parts for my customers, they didn't experience a major disruption to their production. Instead, it was a minor hiccup and they were able to continue operations as normal.

As soon as I shipped out parts that weren't defective, I went through all of my inventory to locate any more defective parts. I found all the defective parts, contacted the manufacturer, sent them back, and ordered more. Imagine the hassle my customer would have had to go through to remedy the situation. First, they have to go through all their inventory to find out how many defective parts they have. Depending on the number of defective part they have, they might have to shut down their production line. Second, they need to coordinate with the manufacturer to send the defective components back and order new parts. Now they have to track the parts going back and the new parts that are going to be coming back in on top of ordering more. Third, these parts have a long lead time. My customer could be waiting 16 weeks or more to get new parts in. Thankfully, we had non-defective inventory on hand.

I met the needs of my customer now and will continue to do so into the future without any interruption to their operations. This is in contrast to our customer being stuck with a bunch of unusable inventory and hoping they would get more parts before they had to shut their lines down.
