Defeat vs Failure — Failures Won't Defeat Me (Part 1)

Defeat vs Failure — Failures Won't Defeat Me (Part 1)

In real life, we can feel like we've failed when things don't go how we want. But is it the end? Well, most people (including me) feel like it's the end of their life.

However, things changed when I started playing games. Let's explore this mentality in the games.

When we lose to a monster or a floor boss, we feel like it's only a temporary setback (failure), not a permanent defeat. That's it; if we have hope, we can keep trying no matter what.

This idea is super important in life as well. It means that even when things are tough, we can keep going and find a way to win!

I will tell you an inspirational story about Timur and the Ant that shows how exciting this idea is!

The Story of Timur and the Ant

There are various versions of this story, but I picked the one I could relate to.

Timur, a mighty king, terribly lost a battle. It was a huge loss. The enemy beat his invincible army. Because of the loss, his dreams seemed crushed.

Feeling very sad, Timur went into a forest to think. He needed to get away and clear his mind.

He was sitting quietly near a tree in a forest. He noticed a tiny ant carrying a grain of rice.

It was trying to carry the rice up a big hill. Timur watched as it pushed and pushed, but the rice kept slipping and falling back down.

It didn't give up. It kept trying until it finally climbed the hill. Timur was amazed by its determination.

It didn't care how much it failed; it kept trying no matter what. Finally, after many attempts, it succeeded. It carried the rice to the top of the hill.

This simple scene taught Timur a powerful lesson. He realized that failure is not the end but a step to success.

Inspired by it, Timur decided not to give up. He gathered his army, made new plans, and went back to fight. This time, he won and achieved even greater things than before.

Reflecting on the Story

The story of Timur and the Ant shows us that failing doesn't mean we are defeated. It means we have a chance to try again and do better. What matters is how we respond to our failures. Do we give up, or do we keep trying until we succeed?

Let's think about some questions:

  1. What would have happened if Timur didn't fight the battle again? Would he have stayed in the forest, always sad about his defeat and died in regret?
  2. How often do we give up after a few failed attempts? Can't we wait a bit longer, not realizing that success might be near?
  3. How do our setbacks shape our character and future success? Do we let failures help us grow, or do we let them make us feel bad?

Conclusion

The difference between defeat and failure is significant in gaming and real life.

  • A failure is just a bump in the road, a challenge to overcome, but defeat is when we stop trying.
  • Failures can only defeat us when we give up.
  • Failures help us learn and become stronger.

It's not how many times you fall but how many times you get up and keep going that counts.

Get ready for an in-depth exploration of the emotional states of individuals who have faced failure versus those who have experienced defeat. It's going to be an eye-opening journey!
