Defeat Is NOT An Option

Introducing The 2018 Fight To End Cancer Fight Team

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TORONTO, ON – The Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) is honoured to announce the official FIGHT TEAM for 2018! These dedicated, brave men and women, will be stepping into the squared circle on Saturday June 2, 2018 at the 7th Annual Fight to End Cancer Charity Gala, benefiting the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

These men and women have trained diligently, for six months, starting as novice boxers and becoming skilled Olympic fighters! The evening features great entertainment, amazing boxing and is hosted by Angie Seth of Global News and Kevin Newman of CTV’s W5. The Annual Fight To End Cancer Charity Gala is hosted at the historic Old Mill Toronto on Saturday June 2, 2018 – it’s simply The Greatest Show In Town!

This year the Fight Team, in concert with our presenting partners Landscape Plus Ltd. and Combustion Training, are planning to make FTEC history by generating the total funds raised by FTEC to over $1 million dollars!  All funds in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

The 2018 Fight Team is a diverse group of individuals coming together for a common purpose.

Our Main event features two battles royal!

Dr. Gavin Grant versus Rick Dhillon – Dr. Gavin Grant, sponsored by Wolfepoint Consulting, holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and focuses on the rehabilitation of contaminated lands the world over. Dr. Grant faces off against Rick Dhillon, sponsored by Make It Happen Media. Rick is a successful realtor and real-estate investor who leads a successful real estate team.

Our Co-Main Event features Alison Turnbull versus Dawn Millar – Alison is sponsored by Eagle Professional Resources, she is an HR executive specializing in permanent placements. She is continuing the legacy of Eagle employees fighting in the Fight to End Cancer! Alison will challenge Dawn Millar! Dawn is the Chief Operating Officer of a successful Toronto law firm specialising in Indigenous and treaty rights. Her team advances these rights through litigation, as wells as negotiation and implementation of modern day treaties, self-government agreements and economic partnerships!

Filling out the nights Fight Card is a curated collection of equally impressive fighters. All six come from very diverse professional backgrounds. The entire FTEC 2018 TEAM have all committed to taking time from their already busy lives, to work together to bring us all one step closer to knocking out cancer for good.

Our sponsors are also jumping into their corners to help raise funds leading up to, and even following, the 2018 event. One of our national ambassadors, Tip Top Tailors, raised over $60,000 in 2017. This year, they hope to raise $75,000.00 in additional donations with their “Wear Your Support” Campaign – the sale of exclusive FTEC tie-clips – available in all Tip Top stores.

Jennifer Huggins, FTEC founder and executive director keep the team on track, along with her partner in crime and Official FTEC Team coach, Virgil Barrow. The duo continue to inspire those who are fortunate enough to step into their ring, with their unwavering commitment to the cause. Jennifer continues to do it all while maintaining a very busy schedule as a 3 Star boxing Referee with AIBA International Boxing Association. This job has taken her to India, Colombia, Cuba and Venezuela in the last year alone. She also moonlights as a magicians assistant, a gig that taps into her more artistic side as a former competitive figure skater. It’s an understatement to say she’s inspirational. We asked Jennifer about her continuing commitment to the cause and what it represents to her:

The reality of what the Fight To End Cancer represents is bittersweet. Something that threatens to tear our lives apart has brought so many people together. Seven years ago, I started this event to give back to the community. The Fight To End Cancer has since become a community in itself; a family working together towards one goal. My vision evolved from being a fundraiser, to becoming a global movement that we are all part of. We are fighting for a future free of cancer, and we will succeed.
Defeat Is NOT An Option!

There is only six weeks to go until fight night, the event is almost sold out, however, the fighters can still use your support in reaching their team fundraising goal supporting The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Go to www.fighttoendcancer.com to Donate!
