The Default Effect! you lazybones

Just read about the Default effect. It says that we (our lazy honorable selves) will try our best not to many any active choices if we can get away with it. We dont want to think, we dont want to decide, we dont want to act.

If I put two check boxes at the bottom of this post saying,

1) This is the most awesome post that I have ever read.

2) This is an OK Post.

And If I keep option 1 as the default option (the checked one), in all probability you will keep it as it is and I will get to brag that almost 100% of my readers voted me the awesome-st blogger ever!

Imagine how vulnerable this laziness makes us! Its a cake walk for all those who want to influence us.

Dont believe me? In countries where Organ Donation is presented as "Opt- in"  (You have to check the box to say YES) on the form, the percentage of citizens who agree to donate is infinitesimal. Make that "Opt-out" (You have to uncheck the box to say NO) and you have an oversupply of donated organs.

The point is.... next time you are faced with a choice, dont let the Default Effect take you for a ride. Make sure that you make deliberate choices at the Crossroads of life!
