DeepSeek AI Privacy Policy: I can has your data

DeepSeek AI Privacy Policy: I can has your data

Here is a quick tl;dr of the DeepSeek.com chat application privacy policy

Official DeepSeek Privacy Policy

  1. "Welcome to DeepSeek! Hope You Didn’t Want Privacy." By using our service, you agree that we can collect, analyze, and do whatever we want with your data. No take-backs.
  2. "We Collect Everything. EVERYTHING." Your profile info, chat history, voice recordings, device details, IP address, and possibly your hopes and dreams—if it exists, we track it.
  3. "Your Keystrokes Are Our Keystrokes." Oh, you thought we wouldn’t monitor how you type? We do. Rhythm, speed, hesitation—it’s all fair game.
  4. "We Follow You Across Devices, Like a Digital Stalker." Sign in from your phone, laptop, or your friend’s tablet? We connect the dots so we always know where you are.
  5. "Got Cookies?" Web beacons, flash cookies, pixel tracking—you name it, we use it to watch your every move and sell them faster than Oreos at a milk convention.
  6. "Your Data Goes to China. It Stays in China. Forever." All your information is stored in servers located in the People's Republic of China. We'll be seeing you soon…
  7. "Sharing Is Caring… and We Care A LOT." Advertisers, analytics firms, business partners, government entities (if they ask nicely)—your data is a hot commodity.
  8. "Deleted Data? More Like ‘Archived Indefinitely’ Data." You think you deleted your chat history or account, but we might keep it ‘for security, legal, and business reasons’—aka, as long as we want.
  9. "We Can Change This Policy Anytime, and You’re Cool With That." By using DeepSeek, you preemptively agree to any and all future updates, no matter how intrusive they become.
  10. "Your Rights Depend on Where You Live, But Don’t Get Your Hopes Up." You might be able to access or delete your data, but navigating our process will require patience, determination, and possibly a legal team.
  11. "Security? We Try. But No Guarantees." We use ‘reasonable’ security measures, but if there’s a data breach, that’s on you for trusting us in the first place.
  12. "Minors Under 14? Move Along." We don’t knowingly collect kids’ data. If we do, we’ll probably delete it… if someone reminds us.
  13. "Got Questions? Sure, Email Us. No Promises on a Response." You can contact us, but whether we acknowledge your concerns is a different story.

In summary:

By using DeepSeek AI, you are enthusiastically handing over your data, thoughts, and digital footprint to be stored indefinitely in China. But hey, enjoy the chatbot! ??

P.S. We're happy to answer any questions about Tiananmen Square in 1989 as long as they aren't about Tiananmen Square in 1989.

Guess what other biases and censored topics are baked into this model, that's one secret we'll never tell.

XOXO, CCP

Final Thought

Jokes aside, as curious staff runs off to try DeepSeek and input company data into the hosted application at DeepSeek.com these are real concerns. At CauseWriter.ai, we have implemented DeepSeek with a US-based host via OpenRouter that protects data sent to the model.

The fact that this is open source and can be hosted and fine-tuned by anyone is incredible and if used correctly could lead to great improvements in the AI space. But please, please, please remember, if you don't pay for the product - wait for it - say it with me so they hear it in the back:

Spot on, George! ?? DeepSeek’s privacy policy is basically a data free-for-all, and storing everything indefinitely in China is a huge red flag. The tracking across devices and keystroke monitoring make it feel more like surveillance than a chatbot. I love the open-source potential, but your final point says it all—if it’s free, your data is the real price. Definitely thinking twice before using DeepSeek now. Thanks for the eye-opening breakdown! ??

Doesn't it being open source enhance its credibility wildly? Though I remain skeptical about the wildly low development costs claimed, given it's China based.
