The popular Deepings Lions Duck Race will be taking place for the first time in its history as a virtual event using videos and still photographs from previous years races. “Despite many events being cancelled this year, because of Covid-19, we didn’t want the community to miss out on the fun or miss the opportunity of raising charity funds”, said Dave Coombs, one of the organisers of the event. “There’s also a ‘Giant Duck’ Name Competition and entertainment on offer including Professor Diamond and his Punch and Judy Show”.
The Duck Race in the Deepings has a long history being first held by the Lions in 1982. After a nine year gap it was revived by the Club in 2009. The Deepings Lions President Steve Holt said: “Over the years thanks to generosity of our Local Communities the event has supported many charities including: Cardiac Risk in the Young, St. Barnabas Hospice, Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and Macmillian Nurses. This year we are donating funds to Sense. Sense is a fantastic organisation providing support for anyone living with complex needs, including those who are deaf blind, so they should not be isolated, left out or unable to fulfill their potential.”
The Lions freely admitted that they found organising a virtual event a challenge, but in a good way. They hope that everyone young and old alike will enjoy it and have a: “Wonderful Quacking Duck Day”.
The “World Famous” Deepings Lions Duck Race is being held on Sunday 6th September starting at 2.00 pm. It will be broadcast live on our Facebook Page and hosted by DJ Funky Fossil. To take part or for more information visit our website or call 03458 337489 and follow on Instagram #duckrace2020
