The Deepfake Problem today

Let’s get right into the juicy “konkonsa” on what happened to data.

This week, I want to talk to you about this thing known as a “deepfake”, which is essentially any kind of media that is actually fake but looks deeply real. It is literally mind games when you try to distinguish any two. Take this picture for instance:

I know right! Pope Francis is looking cool AF but guess what? It is not actually him. Its fake!!

See this too → Donald Trump got arrested - but once again, this is fake!

And many many more. If these pictures are so damn realistic, imagine the deepfake videos! Which explains why celebrities like Barack Obama, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Aniston, Ellie Goulding, Scarlett Johansson and Ariana Grande are not having it.

So, how can you tell if any kind of media you are watching is a deepfake or not?

1. Look for unnatural facial features, such as odd eye movements or lip-syncing.
2. Check for inconsistencies in lighting, shadows, or background elements.
3. Listen closely to audio for discrepancies with lip movements and speech patterns.
4. Consider the context and credibility of the source.
5. Utilize technology tools designed to detect deepfakes.
6. Consult with experts in digital forensics or media analysis when in doubt.

Sadly, for now - this is what we can work with. Personally, I think it all fun and cool to get images of Pope Francis looking so gangster but when you “ai-tically” put Trump in jail, that’s sometimes else

According to?a study conducted by iProov71% of respondents globally do not know what a?deepfake?is, and 43% admit they would not be able to detect one.

That’s why it gives me an iota of hope that deepfake is at the center of a federal bill to make it illegal as of 2024. Expect more gist on this in the following weeks to come!
