Welcome back to my ongoing exploration of ketamine therapy. In the first two parts of this series, I introduced you to my initial experiences and the emotional revelations that unfolded during those early sessions. If you missed last week’s post, “Stepping into the Unknown,” where I shared my initial experiences and the preparations for my first session, you can read it here.
In this third blog, we'll journey deeper into the heart of my experience, where the symphony of senses, emotions, and subconscious whispers reached a crescendo, guided by my inner healing intelligence.
Understanding Your Inner Healing Intelligence
At the heart of ketamine therapy lies a profound concept: your inner healing intelligence. This innate wisdom within us guides the healing process, orchestrating the symphony of emotional, psychological, and physiological responses that occur during therapy. This intelligence brings forth the memories and emotions that need addressing, facilitates the release of long-held traumas, and helps integrate new insights into your conscious awareness.
Your inner healing intelligence is your body's and mind's innate capacity for self-repair and growth. It knows what needs to be healed and how to go about it. Ketamine is a facilitator, allowing this intelligence to work more freely by quieting the conscious mind and reducing psychological defenses. This process can lead to profound insights and emotional releases that might not be accessible through conventional therapy alone.
The importance of trusting this process cannot be overstated. To fully benefit from ketamine therapy, one must let go and be open to the experiences and insights that emerge. Setting an intention for the session is crucial, but the ability to release that intention and trust that your inner healing intelligence will guide you to where you need to go is also crucial. The concepts of set and setting play a pivotal role here:
Confronting the Past and Embracing Release
My second session was a profound departure from the first. As the ketamine took hold, my mind became a torrent of memories and emotions, primarily centered around my time in the emergency department. Feelings of regret and sorrow washed over me like a tidal wave, threatening to pull me under. Yet, within this emotional storm, a sense of release also emerged. It was as if the music I was listening to, vibrating intensely through my left leg – the same leg I had broken in a firefighting accident – was helping me to acknowledge and process these long-buried feelings. Ketamine, it seemed, was providing a safe space for me to confront my past and embrace the healing power of emotional release. It was as though my inner healing intelligence was using the very site of my physical trauma as a catalyst for emotional healing.
Finding Self-Forgiveness
In the third session, the emotional intensity of previous experiences gave way to a profound sense of self-forgiveness, orchestrated by my inner healing intelligence. It was a symphony of love and acceptance, a moment of pure grace where I felt warmly embraced. I vividly remember being told, "It's okay to forgive yourself." The weight of guilt and self-criticism that had burdened me for years began to lift, replaced by a newfound sense of peace and acceptance. This shift in mindset wasn't just a personal victory; it rippled into my professional life, enhancing my empathy as a coach and fostering a deeper connection with my clients. The ketamine, it seemed, had activated a wellspring of compassion within me, allowing me to extend the same forgiveness to myself that I often encouraged in others.
Facing Anxiety Head-On
In my fourth session, anxiety flared up, threatening to undo the hard-won peace I'd found in previous treatments. Doubts about my future and a relentless inner critic surged, but a surprising sense of agency remained.

Instead of succumbing to this inner chaos, my inner healing intelligence rose to the occasion. Guided by soothing music and the steady presence of my therapist, it was as if a wise and experienced guide was navigating me through a challenging landscape.
Confronting these anxieties head-on felt strangely empowering. It was like wrestling with a shadow version of myself and emerging victorious. The session ended not in defeat but with a newfound resilience and determination. The experience reminded me that facing our fears, however daunting, is a crucial step toward overcoming them.
This experience taught me a valuable lesson: facing our fears is an essential step towards overcoming them, no matter how daunting. And just when I thought I had plumbed the depths of this session's wisdom, a final, unexpected message appeared – a quote from "The Big Lebowski": "The Dude abides." This seemingly out-of-place pop culture reference from my inner healing intelligence was, in fact, a perfect encapsulation of the session's lesson. It reminded me to accept the ups and downs of life with a touch of humor and a lot of grace, just like The Dude. At that moment, I understood that a bit of levity can go a long way, even amid intense healing.
Embracing Vulnerability and Interconnectedness
By the fifth session, I had learned to surrender to the experience, embracing vulnerability as a pathway to deeper healing. This time, the journey was less about confronting specific emotions and more about surrendering to the unknown, allowing my inner healing intelligence to guide me.
The music transported me to a place of profound interconnectedness, where I felt a sense of oneness with the universe. I glimpsed "windows within windows," infinite layers of reality, and found "new worlds in tiny things." These visions were not just random occurrences; they were symbolic messages from my subconscious, orchestrated by my inner healing intelligence, inviting me to explore the interconnectedness of all things, the vastness of possibility, and the importance of perspective. It was as if my inner wisdom revealed the intricate tapestry of existence, showing me how even the smallest details could hold profound significance.
Reflecting on the Journey
As the sessions continued, the transformative effects of ketamine therapy became more pronounced. My mental health improved significantly, my anxieties lessened, and the incessant inner critic quieted down. As an executive coach, I felt greater emotional resilience and a renewed sense of purpose.
The ketamine journey was not always smooth sailing but undeniably transformative. It was a symphony of experiences, notes, sensations, and visual metaphors orchestrated by my inner healing intelligence to guide me toward a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me. It was a testament to the power of the mind to heal, adapt, and create lasting positive change.
Your Brain on Ketamine: A Symphony of Neuroplasticity
One of the most striking revelations of my journey was the visualization of my brain rewiring itself. It was an explosive, almost psychedelic display of neurons firing and new connections forming. This wasn't just a symbolic image but a reflection of the actual neuroplasticity facilitated by ketamine, the brain's ability to rewire itself and create new pathways for healing and growth. This visual metaphor served as a tangible reminder of the profound changes happening within my mind, orchestrated by my inner healing intelligence.
Conclusion: Embracing the Journey Within
My journey through ketamine therapy is ongoing, a testament to the ever-evolving nature of healing and self-discovery. But the lessons I've learned along the way are invaluable. Ketamine isn't just a treatment; it's a catalyst for profound personal transformation guided by our own innate wisdom. If you're considering this path, be prepared for the unexpected. Trust your inner healer, embrace the uncertainty, and be open to the symphony of experiences that await you. Your journey is unique, and the rewards are immeasurable.
The power of ketamine lies not only in its ability to alter our brain chemistry but also in its capacity to unlock the wisdom of our inner healing intelligence. By surrendering to the experience, trusting in our innate capacity for growth, and embracing the unexpected, we can embark on a transformative journey toward a more fulfilling and authentic life.
