Field Notes ??

Learnings from the startup capital of the world — Jun Qu , Investment Manager, Main Sequence

Earlier this year, Jun?visited the San Francisco Bay Area and Stanford to meet with deep tech founders and co-investors in his areas of focus. As a former US investor, Jun had the chance to reconnect with his roots and gain insights from the US innovation hub.

Jun’s key takeaways:

  1. The Bay Area’s critical mass of talent, capital, and innovation fosters a disruptive ecosystem that rewards risk-taking – a model I believe we should aspire to build for deep tech startups in Australia. ?
  2. Meeting top-performing deep tech founders showcased the high execution standards and massive ambitions that companies here in Australia must match to be globally competitive. ?
  3. While I see exciting capabilities emerging from Australia’s research ecosystem, the challenge for me – and us at Main Sequence – continues to be how we can best engage the international investor community as we take our local companies global.
