Deep breaths won't lower your case load, but they will lower your heart rate.
Hi friend,
?
In this weeks podcast I chat to Tamu Thomas about her book Women who work too much (sound familiar?)
?
At the end of every podcast, and the start of every training I deliver, I invite you to slow down, close your eyes and take some focus breaths.
?
I often share this with the disclaimer that deep breaths won't lower your case load, but they will lower your heart rate.
?
I think the idea of self care in social work can be toxic, reductive and pathologising, so it was good to stretch out these ideas with Tamu, who talked about how we can take care of ourselves and others by connecting mind to body but saying no to toxicity.
?
The takeaway - it is possible.
?
Have a great week,
?
Remember you are doing an amazing job.
?

11 个月Somatics are massively underrated. Should be a standard part of social work education both because they'll make you a calmer, healthier social worker and because they'll assist you to do the same for service users.
