A dedication to caregivers

Behind every patient is a support system of caring partners, determined children, relentless parents and passionate caregivers helping with the management of the illness. 

Throughout the years, I have known many phenomenal caregivers who have never failed to inspire me with their unmatched patience and dedication to support the patient in their lives. 

These silent heroes are often in the background, constantly dedicating their every waking moment to ensure that their loved ones are getting what they need. 

They do not take no for an answer and are constantly finding better alternatives to desperate situations. 

I often noticed that they take on the diagnosis of their loved ones, not in the physical sense but in the challenge of being diagnosed with a debilitating illness. Their responsibility is around the clock: when the patient is finally resting, the caregiver needs to stay alert should they be needed.

Their noble servitude is one to be admired and celebrated. For without them, we might not be able to find the strength to keep fighting harder towards health access to everyone. 

Antoinette, Daad, Dee, Fiona and all of Zamier Jr’s family, this article is dedicated to you and to all the caregivers everywhere in the world. 

Thank you for all of the hard work that you do and for your perseverance.. 

Thank you for always being there, for compromising and for loving unconditionally.
