Decreasing Bacteria In The Work Place, Schools and At Home.

In Part 1, we discussed the most common bad bacteria’s you come into contact with in the workplace. Let’s now look at how they are commonly spread and more importantly, how to kill them and decrease the risk of further infection.

As we saw many bacteria are spread through our skin and what we manually handle. Then transfer to commonly touched items in our work place and home environments, such as light switches, door handles, table tops, toys, laptops, mobile devices, remote controls and so forth. These high touch areas, now have a higher probability of someone else picking up the bacteria transferred by the initial person.

General cleaning does not decrease the bacteria levels. Neither does sanitizing. To kill and decrease the spread of bacteria, disinfectant is needed on these high touch areas.

Bacteria and viruses can travel through the air, causing and worsening diseases. They get into the air easily. When someone sneezes or coughs, tiny water or mucous droplets filled with viruses or bacteria scatter in the air or end up in the hands where they spread as well as find themselves landing on the surfaces around us, increasing the spread of the bacteria. The same disinfectant solution applies. With the "flu" season upon us that extra layer of protection using a disinfectant when cleaning is advised in high risk areas.

In Part ! we spoke about Salmonella and Clostridium Perfringen bacteria from ingestion. These bacteria that form in our gut can still be passed onto others. Keeping rest rooms clean and hygienic, as well as thorough washing of hands each time you use the bathroom are the only way to combat the spread of this type of bacteria.

So our Mum's and Grandmas have been on the ball for generations. Cover your mouth when you cough. Use a tissue when you sneeze and dispose of it properly. Wash your hands every time you use the bathroom. Wash your hands after petting an animal. And keeping a clean, hygienic space go a long way to avoid the spread of bacteria. With the last defense being disinfecting the surfaces in high touch or high risk areas.
