Decrease in U.S. Overdose Deaths in 2023
The CDC recently reported that U.S. Overdose deaths decreased in 2023 for the first time since 2018.
Specifically, overdose deaths involving opioids were estimated to have decreased from 84,181 in 2022 to 81,083 in 2023. However, although an overall decrease in overdose deaths was observed, overdose deaths involving cocaine and psychostimulants with abuse potential, such as methamphetamine, continued to increase by an estimated 5% for cocaine and nearly 2% for psychostimulants including methamphetamine. In addition to testing for cocaine and methamphetamine, Aegis offers testing for synthetic stimulants which have been found in circulation in the illicit drug supply. Learn more here.
