“I have a job and a family, and I work hard all while smiling and laughing with everyone, but deep down inside I feel alone, miserable… .
And I don’t know why. It’s just there, inside of me.
I can’t sleep because of all the thoughts of self-loathing I have. No one knows how I feel about myself as I would never tell anyone at work or my family.
When you see comments on the Internet from people about how you should ‘just get a grip,’ I’m sorry, it is not as simple as that… .”
Does that sound familiar?
Are you a hard worker who smiles and laughs with everyone, but deep inside you’re suffering from secret panic attacks, insomnia and crushing low self-esteem?

Did you know that depression is one of the most common mental health challenges?
That’s not a typo. It really is one of the most common.
And in many ways it’s normal. That’s because over 50% of Americans will have brain health issues at some point in their lives. Anxiety, depression, ADD, addictions… .
50%!
So it’s almost normal to have a problem than to not have a problem.
Surprised?
But it’s an unhealthy “normal” to have—and it’s something that won’t go away on its own.
Listen, we know what you are going through. Your friends and family may not understand, but we do.
Many of you have felt depressed for years, and some of you get through the day by taking anti-depressants, and making a joke out of everything.
It seems that you are the one who makes your friends laugh if they are feeling down, however, if you’re feeling down, you try to put a smile on your face whenever you have to go out. But inside you feel so alone, so low, that you want to cry and shut the world out.
Tuning in every (put day and time) will switch on the light bulb for you. You’ll understand why you feel so low, and what to do about it.

Dr. Amen: Hi, I’m Dr. Daniel Amen.
Tana: And I’m Tana Amen. Welcome to Change Your Brain, Change Your life.
Dr. Amen: We’re so excited to have you with us. Every week we’re going to give you tips and tools to help you have a better brain and a better life.
Tana: You’re not stuck with the brain you have. You can actually make it better and we can prove it.
Dr. Amen: So, at the Amen Clinics, over the last, goodness, 23 years, we’ve been doing brain imaging. We do a study called brain SPECT imaging. SPECT looks at blood flow and activity. It looks at how your brain works. We’ve done nearly a hundred thousand scans on people from 111 countries and just what Tana said, the theme of our work is ‘You’re not stuck with the brain you have. You can make it better and we’ve proven it over and over again.’ So, these are SPECT scans. SPECT scans are what we do at Amen Clinics. It looked at blood flow and activity. Healthy on the left, someone with Alzheimer’s disease on the right who was diagnosed at the age of 59. So, even in her 20’s or 30’s or 40’s, her brain is deteriorating and nobody knows because virtually nobody looked.
Tana: For a long time now we’ve said we’re going after Alzheimer’s. We have an Alzheimer’s prevention program and that’s sort of made some waves but it’s true because people never make the connection or they didn’t until more recently between lifestyle, what you’re doing everyday and its effect on diseases like Alzheimer’s. In other words, as your weight goes up, the size and function of your brain goes down. Obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, all of these things actually contribute to Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Amen: All of these things that are preventable.
Tana: Preventable. And so that’s why when we say we are, we have an Alzheimer’s prevention program and we’re going after it, we’re going after all of those things that lead to Alzheimer’s disease. So, we’re going to teach you that connection between your body and your brain and how do you prevent these things. It’s actually much easier than you might think.
Dr. Amen: That it requires focus and we’re going to give you those right things to focus on. So here’s the big idea for the Change Your Brain, Change Your Life series. With a little forethought and our methods that we call it The Amen Clinics Methods that we’re going to talk you about coming up quickly you can boost your brain and improve everything in your life. You are not stuck with the brain you have. We can make it better and we can prove it.
Tana: Thank you.
