Deconstructing Feminism and its Views Targeting Men

Feminism is a widely known topic that can be defined as the fight for equality not only for women but also for every other gender. The term Feminism in the modern-day perspective is, however, connoted as ‘the belief that women should have the same economic, social and political rights as men.’However, the era of achieving such goals has arrived. Women are presented with equal rights as that of men. If there is a balance, what seems to be the prevailing issue? Across the globe, what rights do men have that women still don't?

Pseudo Feminism- This stems from the idea of supporting feminist principles yet there are no such beliefs in supporting gender equality, yet it does encourage the principle of misandry. Such pseudo-feminists dominate and incorporate the idea that all men are evil, their hate and prejudice against men causes unfair practices against the male population.

The misuse of privileges- Women are provided with many more privileges than men yet the source of dissatisfaction within feminists is high. The charges and repercussions that are taken against men are far more severe than they are towards women. If a man is affected via sexual harassment, stalking, sexual assault and much more, they are ridiculed and are commonly told to enjoy the attention whilst it lasts. Whereas in the case of a woman, they face no oppression and their safety is of extreme importance to those around them. If the proposed idea of equality exists, why is it that we take one gender seriously and taunt the other??

Prevalence rates - Some may argue that there are more cases of men who have attacked women, how are we to tell if the cases of men being affected are higher? Especially if feminism and society stand together and repress the voices of men who have been affected. The social stigma leads to dictating males to behave in a certain way, that is classified as the norm. Such unrealistic standards that are set for men create a large impact over their mental health.

‘Not all men but always a man’ - It can be women too! Society and the media for over the past few decades have painted a picture of all men as being vicious. How can we generalise a population if it was the fault of one.?

  • There is no way of proving that every problem starts with a man, especially if men are not heard and they are not given the chance to speak up about the complications faced.?

  • Women are capable of harming men too, the media shuns and gives less importance to offenses against men. Furthermore, its portrayal of women as dainty and fragile are set as the social norms and it often comes as a shock and people are in denial when a woman commits a heinous crime.??

False victimization- Many men have had their entire lives ruined because of charges held against them for felonies against women that they did not commit. To date there has never been a woman who has been held behind bars for legally proceeding with false allegations.?

What does feminism strive to prove??

Feminism was all about achieving equality. It used to be about gaining rights. Modern-day feminism however strives to work on many non-existential problems. If problems like misogyny exist why does feminism not revolve around the eradication of misogyny? Yet it is the founder and sustainer of misandry. Where does the concept of equality lie if there are many biased preconceived notions that exist around the idea?
