Growing with ChatGPT
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been a game-changer in various industries, including real estate. A key driver of this transformation is ChatGPT, a leading AI model developed by OpenAI. As an advanced conversational AI, ChatGPT is revolutionizing the way we interact with technology, opening up endless opportunities for innovation and growth. Capable of understanding and generating human-like text, it offers a revolutionary approach to information retrieval, conversation, and general knowledge application.
As an early technology adopter, my journey with ChatGPT has been an exciting exploration of its capabilities. I've been drawn to its ability to navigate a wide range of topics with ease, offering instant access to information, without the need for extensive research or wading through redundant information. The latest feature that caught my eye? Plug-ins. These add a whole new dimension to ChatGPT, extending its functionalities by connecting it to the internet.
The OpenAI Developer's Invitation
The journey began when OpenAI extended an invitation to developers to create functional plug-ins for ChatGPT. Developers flooded the OpenAI platform, testing the capabilities and limitations of this large language model (LLM). As a result, the first wave of plug-ins was quickly introduced, ushering in a new era of capabilities.
From being a mere conversational AI, the capabilities of ChatGPT expanded remarkably with the introduction of plug-ins. As a user, my journey with ChatGPT had been both exciting and insightful. With the Pro subscription, I had the ability to enjoy extended features, and now, with the advent of plug-ins, the potential seemed endless.
The shift began around late April when OpenAI sent out developer invitations to its open API platform, inclusive of beta keys. This was to pave the way for the creation of plug-ins, an innovative way of augmenting the capabilities of the already powerful language model. The accompanying documentation shed light on the end-to-end modelling of these plug-ins, facilitating developers to create, test, and perfect their designs.
The community forums turned into a hotbed of brainstorming, brimming with questions, solutions, and shared challenges. As users flocked in to test this new iteration of the language model, the discussions ranged from the capabilities of the new model, its limitations, to novel ways of leveraging the data it could process.
This progression of introducing plug-ins enhanced the ChatGPT experience exponentially. For instance, it wasn't just about generating text anymore, but we could now add images, construct graphs, get real-time quotes, generate code, offer math tutoring, create memes, and much more. The model was no longer just a text generator, but an interactive tool that could provide richer, more diverse, and contextually relevant responses.
The Rapid Growth of Plug-ins
Initially, only six plug-ins were available for beta testing. However, the offering didn't stay stagnant for long. In what seemed like a blink of an eye, the number of plug-ins grew to 10, then to 14, and now, there are 16 PAGES of plug-ins available, each serving a different purpose and covering a wide range of topics.
Plug-ins have introduced a new dimension to ChatGPT's capabilities. The sheer variety of plug-ins now includes options for news updates, restaurant reservations, home search, chess games, fitness routines, and more. To access these plug-ins, there are various methods available. Some plug-ins are keyword-driven, like the 'Milo' plug-in. All you need to do is type "What's magic today?", and the plug-in springs into action, providing you with a unique and engaging family activity.
Yet, there are other plug-ins which work intuitively, gauging the complexity of the query before offering more in-depth information. Take the 'Wolfram' plug-in, for example. If you were to ask something as simple as "What is 2 + 2?", no plug in is needed, ChatGPT will just answer as usual. However, if the question involves more complex calculations, the plug-in recognizes the need for more detailed information and reaches out to Wolfram to fetch it.
A plethora of other noteworthy early plug-ins have also been introduced. News plug-ins that provide daily updates on President Biden's schedule, 'OpenTable' for making restaurant reservations, numerous home selling search tool plug-ins, and even a chess plug-in that lets you pit your chess skills against ChatGPT! The horizon of possibilities continues to expand, with more innovative plug-ins being added every day.

Pros and Cons of ChatGPT Plug-ins
ChatGPT plug-ins, while transformative, are not without their challenges. The connection to the internet is a significant benefit, enabling real-time information access. However, server limitations can sometimes disrupt the user experience. Additionally, certain plug-ins require separate logins, which can break the seamlessness of the interaction.
The integration of ChatGPT with internet connectivity through plug-ins has unlocked an entirely new level of real-time interaction. Here, we delve into the pros and cons of this newfound capability.
Pros:
1. Real-Time Information: The ability to provide current, up-to-the-minute information, such as news, weather updates, and restaurant reservations, marks a significant leap forward in ChatGPT's utility.
?2. Expanded Knowledge: With access to the vast expanse of the internet, ChatGPT's base of knowledge has amplified manifold, leading to more insightful and nuanced conversations.
Cons:
1. Server Responsiveness: When the servers are busy, some plug-ins may become unresponsive. This can result in delays or lack of information if a specific plug-in or server is overwhelmed.
2. Separate Logins: Certain plug-ins require unique logins. If users don't have an account, they'll need to create one, disrupting the seamless experience of using ChatGPT.
3. Image Quality: While the ability to generate images is a pro, the quality of generated images is not on par with other image generators such as mid journey.
4. Plug-In Compatibility: Some plug-ins, while initially promising, may struggle to keep up with the speed of the AI platform's evolution. This can render the plug-ins obsolete or ineffective over time.
5. Performance: Running ChatGPT with plug-ins enabled can slow down the program's performance, affecting the user experience.
6. Limited Number of Plug-ins: Currently, only three plug-ins can be enabled in a single chat session. While this may suffice for many users, others may find this limitation restrictive.
Conclusion
The world of ChatGPT plug-ins is still in its infancy, but the promise it holds for transforming AI conversations is immense. There are challenges to be faced and improvements to be made, but as an early adopter, I am excited about the journey ahead. The potential of this platform is undeniably immense, and it's exciting to see how it will continue to evolve and improve.
