Technology teams now live in an era when cloud computing is consumed in some fashion from IaaS, DevSec Ops, AIML, to GenAI from one or more cloud providers, such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI. As a result, cloud computing no longer needs an introduction.
The term "SKY Computing" refers to a metaphor that suggests that cloud resources are not restricted to any one cloud service provider (such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI) or cloud delivery paradigm (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), but rather are as abundant and available as the sky.
Rise of SKY Computing - Hosting the workload in multiple clouds is not a choice; rather, it depends on the commercial and licensing benefits depending on the type of workload. This has led to the rise of interconnect cloud services and SKY computing. One cloud service provider cannot meet all of the enterprise needs where we have hundreds of workload and services ranging from Microsoft stack to opensource and MS-SQL DB to SAP HANA or Oracle RAC.
Key priority – Maintaining system security in a multi-cloud environment is the organization's top priority when it comes to meeting modern cloud security needs. Cloud native security tools alone cannot address this; instead, a combination of enterprise solutions and ongoing review and evaluation of new security tools are needed to identify and address emerging security threats.

Being resilient – Resiliency and multipath connectivity to cloud-hosted apps are highly recommended for these use cases since customers use connected applications from head offices to branch offices and distant factories, dispersed across the clouds in the sky. Depending on the use case and requirements, selecting hybrid connection services from Cloud Native direct link to VPN or third-party solutions, such as SD WAN, can vary.
Governance and FinOps – We have seen a significant number of firms squandering cloud resources without effective cloud control and a focus on FinOps. The majority of businesses are more concerned with engineering, and this lack of attention to governance and finance is what drives up the price of multicloud hosting and sky computing.
Conclusion – Multicloud Hosting / SKY Computing is the need of hours however one size cannot fit all hence adequate planning , regular assessment , efficient governance Model and Defined FinOps Strategies helping the organizations to keep their cloud cost below estimated budget and having skilled resources on board further strengthens their cloud journey for larger organizations goals and business needs .
