Decoding OpTech: How to derive the best value out of your software investments?

Over the past two decades, we've collaborated with a multitude of companies, watching them adopt technology that is as basic as using ubiquitous emails to the more sophisticated ERP systems. All of them embraced technology for the same reason- to improve what was already there. Yet, what truly sets each company apart is its unique approach to, and utilization of, technology.

Let’s take the example of a plumbing company we once assisted. Despite having dedicated software, their sales and accounting systems didn't communicate. Information entered into the CRM required manual re-entry into the accounting system, while job notes were jotted down on paper. This inefficiency translated to significant administrative costs, almost trumping the sales value of those transactions. If they had an effective integration between the multiple softwares they used, it could have increased the value they received out of it, both in the cost and the time saved.

Unsurprisingly, similar situations arose in many other companies that adopted software as a tool to improve efficiency across various industries, from manufacturing and consultancies to marketing agencies, retail outlets, schools, government entities, and non-profits.

Does that mean, operations technology is of no significant benefit and companies should be weary of it?

Embracing technology is no longer optional; it is a necessity. Every company at some point must utilize operations software that will help them to advance further in their sector. ?However, the true challenge lies in the approach the company has towards technology. It should neither be treated as a shiny new toy nor as a magic wand that can automatically fix what is broken in the system.

As an entrepreneur and business leader, here are some of the questions you should be asking yourself.

·??????? How do I select the right software for my company?

·??????? How do I make sure that I am getting the most out of my software?

·??????? How do I make sure that my team is using the software?

·??????? Are there things that I should take into consideration when I select a new solution?

The solutions to the above will tell you how much value you are going to derive from getting the new software. ?In this article, we have compiled the pitfalls you can watch out for and tips you can use while answering the above questions. Read about it at
