The World Economic Forum (WEF) has recently released the ‘Future of Jobs Report 2023’, which states that around a quarter of jobs are set to significantly change by 2027.
In the report it is revealed that the skills with the highest share of companies reporting growing demand include #analytical and #creative #thinking, followed by #technological literacy, #curiosity and lifelong #learning, #resilience and #flexibility, systems thinking and - clearly - #AI.
Surveyed companies have shown #cognitive #skills to be growing in importance most quickly, reflecting the increasing importance of complex #problemsolving in the workplace.
According to the WEF report, skills less in demand include sensory processing abilities and manual dexterity, endurance and precision.
The report revealed that one of the largest absolute gain in jobs will come from #education (3 million jobs), which I found extremely interesting.
Concerning the core job skills in demand in 2023, cognitive skills took the top two spot, with #selfefficacy and #workingwithothers, while #technology skills took up the rest of the seven spots.
#Technology and #digitalisation is indeed both the driver of job creation and destruction. A summary of the report writes: "Advancing technology adoption and increasing digitization will cause significant labour market churn".
The fastest declining roles will be secretarial and clerical roles such as bank tellers and cashiers which can be automated while demand for AI machine learning specialists and cybersecurity experts is expected to grow significantly.

I submitted the entire 294 pages World Economic Forum report to?#chatgpt4 asking #chatGPT to generate a Summary, which you can find below:
?? Future of Jobs Report 2023: Key Insights??
1?? Technology adoption, particularly AI, big data, and cloud computing, is the primary driver of business transformation with over 85% of organizations acknowledging this shift.
2?? A green transition, powered by investments and application of ESG standards, is predicted to be the largest job creator, despite triggering some job displacement.
3?? Slow economic growth, supply shortages, and the rising cost of living are the main culprits behind expected net job destruction.
4?? Roles in AI, machine learning, sustainability, and renewable energy are booming. Conversely, clerical roles such as bank tellers, postal service clerks, and data entry clerks are declining due to digitalization and automation.
5?? The skills in highest demand by 2023 will be analytical thinking, creative thinking, resilience, flexibility, agility, and technological literacy.

6?? Despite 60% of workers requiring training by 2027, only half are currently given access to adequate training opportunities.
7?? Companies are focused on developing AI, big data skills, leadership and social influence, despite these not being the fastest-growing skills.
8?? Businesses see the solution to skills gaps and talent attraction as improving talent progression and offering higher wages, not just reskilling and upskilling.
9?? Inclusion and diversity efforts are prioritizing women, youth under 25, and those with disabilities, but there's room to expand these initiatives to other marginalized groups.
?? Governments are urged to fund skills training, provide flexibility on hiring and firing practices, and offer incentives to improve wages.
The future of jobs is in constant flux, affected by technological, environmental, and economic trends. We must prepare for the future now, staring by reviewing our educational system.

How are you or your organization preparing for the future of work? Which of these identified 'in-demand skills' are you currently developing? How are you going about it?
How do you envision the transition towards more technology-driven roles affecting the overall job market? In light of the declining roles, what are your thoughts on reskilling and upskilling to keep the workforce relevant?
Given the rise in demand for roles in AI, machine learning, and sustainability, how should educational institutions adjust their curriculum?

1 年In reference to this issue, “It becomes increasingly clear that cognitive and technological skills are paramount for future workforce readiness. Analytical thinking, creativity, resilience, flexibility, and notably, AI and digital literacy, stand at the forefront of demand.”, this article of The Waves, https://www.the-waves.org/2020/07/15/fourth-industrial-revolution/, states this view, “the only idea is left for the human being to provide for productive activities. These ideas are for adding new features, improving existing ones, innovating new products and processes, and inventing as well as advancing technologies.” I would appreciate your remarks on this.

1 年It's encouraging to see the World Economic Forum's endorsement of AI and machine learning specialists. While it's important to maintain a human workforce, technology skills are becoming increasingly necessary in many industries. Educational institutions need to prepare students for the future by providing up-to-date and practical learning experiences.
