It's a summation of User affinity, Weight & Time decay.
User affinity: User will see more posts from the people whom he connects the most.
Example: if you keep checking your brother's profile on FB or you tend to like the majority of his posts, you will see his posts more than anything else.
Weight: FB is starting to allocate weight to the different forms of content & posts. More the weight, better the chances that the thing will be shown.
Example: If there are 2 similar ads by 2 different pages but one is targeted & executed well & so giving better engagements, wherein second is performing poor; more weight will be given to the ad 1 & the same will be shown/ displayed more.
Time decay: This says, as soon as the post stops getting responses or engagement, FB will consider reducing its reach.
Example: if you post about your marriage today, you will get plenty of comments & likes for the next few days, But it will reach the stagnation level within a few days.. And once it reaches that level or stops performing, its reach will be automatically restricted by FB.
So the new algorithm is all about the 3 things mentioned.
In order to become a better marketer, make sure that you use influencers network well + your creatives & posts are engaging enough to get a better weight + your content is engaging for a significantly larger duration.
If you crack, you win!
