California shifts focus to EV charging with revised LCFS rules
CHARGED Electric Vehicles Magazine reports that The California Air Resources Board has revised its Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) regulations, aiming to increase support for electric vehicle charging over biofuels. Under the new rules, it will be more challenging for biofuel producers to earn regulatory credits, shifting a larger share of credits to the EV charging sector.
This move is expected to result in between $500 million and $1.4 billion in annual funding for EV infrastructure, grid operators, and automakers, with biofuel suppliers seeing a reduction in support. The update is designed to stabilize credit prices, which have fallen due to an oversupply, and align with California’s emissions targets of a 30% reduction by 2030 and 90% by 2045.
Stefan: ?? - This shift in focus is a smart move by the California Air Resources Board. Prioritizing EV charging over biofuels means backing a more sustainable solution that aligns with long-term emissions reduction goals. EVs, powered by clean electricity, offer a clearer path to decarbonizing transportation compared to biofuels, which still rely on combustion and have a more limited emissions reduction potential. Redirecting resources to EV infrastructure and grid improvements will accelerate adoption and provide lasting benefits, making it the right call for a sustainable future.

How new UK EV charging regulations are shaping the future for CPOs regulations are transforming UK EV charging standards.
EV Magazine report on the Public Charge Point Regulations, passed in 2023, that required CPOs to meet key standards by November 24, 2024.
These include displaying transparent pricing, offering contactless payment for charge points above 8kW, and achieving a 99% reliability rate for rapid chargers. CPOs must also provide 24/7 customer support and share data on availability via open interfaces. These regulations aim to improve the consumer experience, making EV charging more accessible and trustworthy.
While they present challenges for CPOs, including infrastructure upgrades and compliance costs, they also offer opportunities for differentiation through enhanced customer service, innovation, and early compliance, positioning operators as leaders in the growing EV market.
Stefan: ?? - These are indeed challenging targets, but as an industry, we need to step up and prioritize drastically improving the customer experience. Meeting these standards is essential to building trust and accessibility, which are critical for driving wider EV adoption and ensuring long-term market growth.

California leads US with 2 million EV and PHEV sales
InsideEVs celebrates a significant milestone for California, surpassing two million sales of all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles since 2011.
As of the third quarter of 2024, the state accounted for 38.8% of all electrified vehicle sales in the U.S. The first nine months of 2024 saw more EVs and PHEVs sold than in all of 2022, with 343,213 units recorded.
In Q3 alone, California represented 30.3% of the national market. The Tesla Model Y was the top-selling EV, followed by the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. To support this surge in EV adoption, California has installed over 150,000 public chargers and more than 500,000 home chargers, solidifying its role as a leader in the transition to electric transportation.
Stefan: ?? - California’s milestone of over two million EV and PHEV sales is a testament to the state’s leadership in the transition to electric transportation. With record-breaking sales and extensive charging infrastructure, this progress sets a strong example for the rest of the country to follow. Great work, California!

CPOs - Do you understand the feasibility of your next site?
This month on the blog, Kenneth Fellows , our North America Sales Manager, discusses the key questions CPOs need to address when planning their networks: site feasibility, investment viability, and timing for deployment.
Kenny emphasizes that the first question, "Could we deploy at this site?" is often overlooked but critical for long-term success. CPOs risk operational inefficiencies and poor network maintenance without a thorough assessment of site feasibility.
As Kenny shares, Dodona’s platform offers over 50 data pointsets and AI-supported decision-making tools, allowing CPOs to evaluate potential sites, ensuring optimal placement and future scalability. Dodona’s customers see significantly better results, with 8.4 out of 10 sites deemed feasible, and their networks grow at an average of 110%, far exceeding the industry average.
Stefan: ?? - This is a must-read for CPOs aiming to work smarter, not harder. Kenny Fellows highlights the critical importance of evaluating site feasibility upfront, a step often overlooked but essential for long-term success. Dodona’s platform empowers CPOs with data-driven insights, ensuring optimal site placement and scalability, delivering results well above the industry average.

2 个月Congratulations to JOLT for snagging the EV Startup of the Year title! It seems they're not just charging ahead but setting the pace for the entire industry. It's like the Oscars of the EV world, and JOLT just won Best Picture—thankfully, no awkward speeches involved. As for California's shift towards prioritizing EV charging over biofuels, it feels like a plot twist in an action movie: just when you think biofuels are the heroes, California steps in with a high-voltage surprise. While biofuels may have had their moment, the future looks electric, and who wouldn't prefer a clean energy blockbuster over a low-budget drama? Here's to a more sustainable ride ahead—let's keep those batteries charged and those emissions down!
