Intro DECODE Thoughts
At DECODE, we pride ourselves on becoming knowledgeable in the emerging industries of the future. One of the most intriguing opportunities in the technology space is that of quantum computing and its potential to expand the range of problems that can be solved. Whether you have limited experience with quantum computing or are an expert on the topic, DECODE would like to hear your thoughts on the role that you believe quantum computing will play in the ongoing technology revolution.
What Is Quantum Computing?
Quantum computing harnesses the phenomena of quantum mechanics to deliver a huge leap forward in computation to solve certain problems (complex right? Let us break it down). It is an area of computing focused on developing computer technology based on the principles of quantum theory (which explains the behavior of energy and material on the atomic and subatomic levels). While traditional computers used today can only encode information in bits that take the value of 1 or 0, quantum computing uses quantum bits or qubits to harness the unique ability of subatomic particles that allows them to exist in more than one state (i.e., a 1 and a 0 at the same time).
Evolving Role of Quantum Computing
Quantum computing is often looked at as a potentially important tool for solving practical problems that traditional computers cannot solve. While engineers and scientists state that there is still a long way to go, it hasn’t stopped investors from pouring a good deal of funds into the industry. The following article by Pitchbook states that investors poured a record-high $1.2 billion into quantum computing firms this year. Quantum computers, which store data in any combination of zeros and ones simultaneously, have the potential to one day facilitate tremendous breakthroughs in anything that requires complex calculations in fields like biotech, chemistry, and logistics. While the estimated time to achieve and create stable quantum computers is estimated to be about a decade or so, investors believe that within a short estimated span of 5 years, industries like national security, finance will see potential use cases of quantum computing that will be economically valuable in the long term. Emerging firms in the field will be transient, but extremely impactful with each breakthrough in the quantum computing industry.
Final Thoughts
In summary, quantum computers will enable tremendous breakthroughs across various fields in the coming years, which is why you should look to stay ahead of the curve today. DECODE is proud to support the?emergence of technologies of the future,?and?our?team?is looking forward to keeping?up to date with exciting quantum computing updates?as well as all?other drivers of global technological advancements.
