I can get messy very quickly, especially when life gets busy and overwhelming. For a long time, I didn’t see the urgency in tidying up. But I’ve realised that decluttering is about more than just clearing space, it’s about creating mental clarity and emotional freedom.
Holding onto clutter or FOMO is a sign of scarcity. It’s the fear that there’s not enough, whether it’s space, energy, or time. We cling to things, to people, and to opportunities because we worry we’ll lose out.
But when you embrace abundance, you see that letting go creates space for more.
You make room for what truly matters to you and therefore allowing yourself to grow.
How does this help with staying on top of your game?
In both life and work, success comes from clarity, focus, and energy.
When your space is filled with physical and mental clutter, it drains your energy and attention.
To thrive, you must clear away distractions, externally and internally.
That’s why I’m encouraging my clients to do the same.
They are working on decluttering their physical environments, clearing mental clutter, and assessing their social circles.
Every area of life needs room for growth. One day at a time, 10 minutes every day can make a huge difference.
Here’s what helped me get started in January 2024 and stick with it for the last 10 months:
1. Mindset Shift: I understood that decluttering is a step toward clarity and peace. It’s about embracing abundance, not scarcity.
2. Focus on Your Why: Every item and energy drains removed bring me closer to freedom. Visualising this kept me motivated.
3. Reflect and Reset: I took a moment to appreciate the physical and mental space I created. Decluttering isn’t a one-time task. You can turn it into a life long habit. I no longer resist.
4. Embrace the Process: The more I let go, the more I gained, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
5. Prioritise Alignment: I asked myself, 'Does this fit the life I’m creating?' If it didn’t align with my vision, it was time to release it.
If you want to stay on top of your game, embrace the habit of decluttering and letting go.
What’s one thing, physical or mental, can you release today to make space for what matters?
