What is your current role at Sage?
My role is Global Content Coordinator and I’m part of the Shared Services Content Team. This involves three main things:
- Managing the production of content and the team’s capacity to do so.
- Working with our transcreation agency to localise the assets we create and publish them in other markets.
- Designing and implementing our scorecards for content engagement on social media and analysing the data to understand the performance of our content and inform our KPIs.
Describe your time with Sage so far…
I came from a very small company (around 15 employees), so the move to Sage was a big one. I spent a while understanding the way a company the size of ours works. After that, it was building the foundations for our team so that as we move forward and expand, we have the processes and tools in place to allow that to go smoothly.
Describe your typical day in Sage…
It’s a huge cliché but I don’t have typical days. Every day is different. It’s an exciting time for the business… The executive team have fantastic ambitions for the business and as a result there’s a lot to do and a lot of change that needs to happen.
My role means working with colleagues in all of our markets to continuously improve the way we use content. I’ll work with them to understand how different pieces of content are performing, things we can do differently, the content they’re creating and whether they can use the content being created by our team.
What do you love most about your job?
The number of people and teams I’m exposed to on a daily basis. There aren’t many roles where you get to talk to people in multiple countries and of varying seniority. One day I’m talking to the social media leads in each market and the next I’m talking to one of our country marketing directors. I get to see how each market is approaching its content and social media creation, and not only that but I get to have input.
I’ve been incredibly lucky to have the team that I do. They’re extremely knowledgeable and because of that I learn new things about content and social media every day.
What advice would you give to someone looking for their dream job in marketing?
First of all, understand which aspect of marketing you want to go into. In digital marketing, there’s so many different facets involved. There’s content, social media, SEO, paid media, web, product and more.
Take the time to understand what’s involved in each and begin to build up your knowledge in that area and practice. Take content for example, if you know that’s what you want to do - start writing.
Starting a blog is one of the easiest things in the world to do. There’s so many platforms available to you for free. Once you’ve started publishing your blog, you can begin to promote it on social media and just like that you’re doing the basics of content marketing!
