Leadership is about being decisive and making decisions. You can overcome any obstacle when you’re able to decide and commit to it. We’re often caught up or conscious about making the right decision and we end up making no decision at all. Decisiveness comes to play in every part of your life. Right from choosing a university till choosing the right job for you, you have to decide for yourself.
The three vital things that you can do when you improve your quality of decisiveness are:
· You’ll be able to decide even during stressed situations
· You’ll be able to select a course of action even if you don’t have the complete information
· You’ll understand that a situation left undecided will still have consequences that you have to face
There are several benefits from being able to decide and here are some tips for you to learn how decisive you can be.
Overcome your fears. If you’re thinking why you’re not able to make a decision for yourself, then you’re probably held back by your fear. Your fear can consume you and be destructive, and might not let you make decisions. Break that negative pattern by being open and accept the fact that life is changing and if you’ve made a decision that you’re not sure about, you have taken a control of your whole life.
Accept the truth. Always understand that any decision that you make, you’ll never be able to the complete information that’s relevant to the decision that you make. Hence accepting the truth can make it easier for you to take a decision on a particularly difficult situation.
Failing to make a decision is a decision. When you don’t make a decision, you’re in a state where little new information can be acquired and you collect more data once you make a choice. Even in certain cases, if you’ve not made the best decision, you could still use the information that you’ve collected and incorporate them into your future decisions. So if you’re indecisive, remember that not making a decision is a decision to not start acquiring new information.
Get enough sleep. When you don’t get enough sleep, you’ll be unable to integrate information and without integration, you’ll be unable to make quick and good decisions. Sleep is an important factor that boosts the health and efficiency of connections in the brain and helps communication. An adequate amount of sleep helps the part of your brain that supports slow thinking and the part of your brain that supports fast thinking to interact and make fine decisions.
