Decisions Suck. Yet We Still Need to Make Them.

Trying to avoid making a mistake in life is the driving force behind why many people delay making decisions.
Decisions, not anything else, become our identity based on the outcome. If we make the right decision and the outcome is better than expected, we are proud and enthusiastic. If we make the wrong decision, we feel like a failure and often choose to avoid making more.
Regardless of how we view the outcome, deciding to make a decision is far better than choosing not to. Lousy choices and extraordinary decisions have a slight degree of separation. An excellent decision could turn bad, while a wrong decision could be better in the long term. Either way, deciding creates movement. Choosing not to settle makes nothing.
People promoting being patient aligns with a similar word, starting with “P,” procrastination.
Is there any upside to being a procrastinator? Doubt it! Being a person of action and wanting to decide helps remove the idea of being a procrastinator; however, you can quickly move into society’s “reckless” side.

Balancing on deciding something or holding off comes from your life choices and personal expectations. People who talk about writing a novel yet never start are procrastinators. People who pick up a piece of paper and draft an outline are decision-makers. They began with a decision that created a movement.
Ultimately, the sooner we decide, good or bad, the sooner it helps promote a sense of achievement, regardless of the outcome.
Only after we decide something can we move on to the next thing on the list. Choosing to hold off or not deciding only leads to zero progress and outcome.

11 个月Making a decision is hard for some, especially for those with low self esteem. Without a decision you will never know what the outcome will be. "Good or bad" the alternatives will always be there. You've hit the nail on the head Patrick! ??

11 个月I am also not a fan of making decisions, especially, when there are many options available. I agree that making a decision is much better than not making one. In my experience if we don’t, then the universe will make it for you. When that happens, although that isn’t always a bad thing, you will likely regret no matter what the outcome may be. Rest assured, though, whatever we do or don’t, we are here to experience life in human form and no choices or outcomes are wrong in a big picture. ??We got this!
