??Decisions, The Mind & Money

For years I wrestled with the time / money / deciding conundrum.

"I'd like to / love to BUT... I don't have the time, money, etc."

Until I finally learned where I'd been going wrong...

Although I really did NOT enjoy the lesson itself, it turned out to be priceless.

This may not apply to you but if it does, I hope you find value in the story. ??

Decisions, the mind, money, time, everything.

I remember when Bob Proctor was my coach.

Standing in the games room in his home near Toronto, Bob asked me if I liked cars.

I'm not a 'petrol-head' but I said yes.

He then asked me what my dream car was?

I told him I’d previously owned a Range Rover and would love another one at some point.

And his response was: "Why don't you have one now?"

So I told him what I believed were my very valid reasons.

Mostly money related. I couldn't afford one... but I had my reasons for this.

Bob looked me in the eye and said:

"Rob, you’re doing what 99% of people do.

You're confusing decision with the means and you're in your own way."

He then said:

"Tell me why the money matters if you’ve not even made a decision?"

I argued that surely it was obvious.

How could I decide until I had the money or at least knew I could afford whatever it was?

In my world, that would be irresponsible.

But Bob just stood and shook his head like a disappointed parent before saying:

“Rob, it’s not how the mind works...

If you keep putting money in front of your decisions, you’ll never have the money or the things you want.

Or it’ll take you years to get what you could otherwise have in weeks or months."

He then added in his very forthright way:

"And you'll never be wealthy... because it's not how wealthy people think.

They decide first and only then does it becomes about the money.

And they decide in the true sense of the word. They cut off from other options. They don't waiver."

"So Decide Rob."

As he said it, he made a fist and punched the palm of his other hand.

"I don't care what you decide. As your coach, I only care that you decide and decide now!

If it's yes, only then are the money and timing relevant.

If it's no, then you're free to move on and make another decision.

Free to quit wasting your energy on indecision."

I wasn't sure I fully got it.....but I could see the point.

“Rob, I’m NOT saying spend money you’ve not got…I'm not saying that...

I’m saying why would you agonise over not having the money for something you’ve not even decided on?

It’s a waste of time, it's backwards thinking and it keeps people poor, stuck and from getting what they want."

He then looked me in the eye again and said.

“Decide. Yes or No?"

Less than a minute had passed and I really wanted to say I needed time to think about it but I also knew better.

That would be a decision to not decide and I knew I wouldn't get away with that.

Although Bob was kind, he didn't stand for any messing around.

So I said ok, I’ve decided.

"Yes or No Rob?"

"Yes, I’m owning another Range Rover. A new one."

Bob didn't ask me if I was sure. He just said:

"OK, now decide by when."

And don't dare tell me it depends on the money or on anything else.

Because it doesn't. I'll teach you that it doesn't. It 100% depends on you.

So when?"

I felt SO uncomfortable. I really didn't want to commit to a fixed dead-line.

I had a lot of uncertainty in my life at the time and I definitely didn't have the money!

But standing toe-to-toe with Bob that day, I knew I had to commit.

"When Rob?"

5 years felt appropriate to me but what came out of my mouth was 3.

"3 years Bob. I'll make it a 3 year goal. 3 years from today.”

And he immediately asked: “Why not 3 months?"

I felt physically sick.

"You just told me you'd love one and you've just decided on it so why not?”

3 months! He had to be kidding... but his face was poker straight!

He looked at me and before I could stop myself, I said: "How about 6 months then?"

He said: "Done" and stuck his hand out. We shook hands and I genuinely thought I was going to pass out.

WTF!

But I learned a very important lesson that day.

Not just about decisions but about the mind, money and time.

And although I then had to learn to fully surrender to my decision,

5 months after shaking Bob's hand..

I took delivery of a new Range Rover.

Which he asked me to show him evidence of when I next saw him in Canada!!

In continuing to study the mind, what I've come to understand in the years since is the mind-blowing truth that our life experience really is mental…

All of it.

Science and scripture tell us this but experience is the best teacher.

Because experience follows where we move in mind and what we're accepting.

Our thinking matters and life is always showing us the evidence of this.

Although the price for understanding is responsibility, the reward is response-ability and complete freedom.

Freedom from the prison of our unquestioned beliefs and assumptions.

Freedom from believing that we're looking out at an independent objective reality.

Freedom from our stories of limitation.... which lead corresponding experiences.

Freedom to choose a new, self-empowered story.... and to experience it with certainty.

But, to get what we want, we've got to DECIDE and then be willing to surrender to our decision...

As without doing so, our old stories and beliefs inevitably decide for us and then play out in experience.

Which in my case were the ones of..... I can't....or maybe when I have the money / time... or I'd love to BUT.....or my old favourite....... believing this year would be different even though my mind wasn't!

So my question is.... what are you DECIDED on?

Not for 2024 but for the next 3 months?

What are you decided upon for the first 6 months of the year?

What would you love and what are you committed to experiencing no matter the circumstances?

And what stories come up when you contemplate making a DECISION?

Because what I can tell you is this... if what comes up feels limiting in any way, it's BS.

You can have whatever you want.

Desire, Decision and Surrender are all that's required.
