Decisions, decisions...
I have always wanted to be a Tar Heel. It's been a life-long dream of mine since I was a kid, where I spent many long, hot summers in Yanceyville, NC visiting my grandparents. But as with many, life got in the way after high school and I delayed completing my undergraduate degree by a "few" years. When I decided to back to school, attending UNC was not a viable option, however, I never gave up on that dream.
Well, after planning to graduate with a degree in Digital Media and Web Technology from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), I applied to and got admitted into the UNC Master of Accounting (MAC) program. I chose the UNC MAC Progam because it's one of the best accounting programs in the country. Moreover, I didn't want to go for the cliche MBA (no offense to all those MBAers out there).
The application process and the people at UNC (I'm talking about you, Susan) were amazing. I even went to Chapel Hill for an in-person interview as I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to visit one of this nation's best university campuses.
Now it's decision time. I have not yet accepted and enrolled into the program.
Since deciding to apply back in March, things have changed dramatically for me at work. I have assumed a lot more responsibilities and have more than doubled the number of the staff reporting to me. These new challenges, along with the pretty high cost of attending, have given me pause. I am not confident that I can be successful with my health, family, work, and pursue my master's degree all at the same time, and doing so while being my best. After finally earning my undergraduate degree in May, this summer was supposed to be my "Summer of George;" my fellow Seinfeld fans know what I mean. But it hasn't turned out that way. The summer has been a bit of a struggle at times, and I haven't even taken my first MAC course yet.
In any event, I only have a few more days to decide, and truthfully I still don't know what I'm going to do. In the meantime, I wanted to celebrate my achievement and to relish in the feeling of being one step closer to finally becoming a Tar Heel.
