The Decision

The Decision

So many of us make a decision when we are not in top form. This often times has disastrous consequences. A loved one hurts your feelings, or you feel under appreciated at your job. In real time while feeling hurt, we fire back with a greater offense. Next thing you know, a bad moment turns into a worse situation. Take a pause, offer some grace, or get some clarity. When it comes time to make the decision, you will be glad you did.

I have worked with hundreds of clients over the course of the years, who didn’t do just that. Get some clarity. So much in life is rapid fire, life decisions should not. Slow down and practice the pause. Sure, you run the risk of missing out on some things. But better to miss out, than to mess up. Because mess up involves clean up. And cleaning up is a laborious task.

Wait until you feel better until you make that decision. If you still feel that way when you’re better, cut the cord. Cord cutting can be very freeing. The flip side of that coin is loss. And even if the loss was good for you, and a healthy choice, it is still a loss.

Have you ever had a pain so long that it became a part of your life? And then one day it is gone, and you feel relieved. Yet there is a part of you that misses it, because it has been with you for so long. I know, it is kind of fucked up, but it does happen. Let me phrase it another way. You were in the worst relationship of your life. It was horrible, heart breaking and literally dismissed your soul. Yet here you are, stalking your ex on social media. You know it was bad, but it was part of your life for so long, you still are connected to it sort of thing…

So what am I saying. Make a decision, about the decision. But make it when you are level headed. Unless you are in a physically abusive relationship, or in the throws of a drug addiction, act with clarity. You have time. Think about what you need, want, and how you are going to get there. Action without a plan is like running in place. Sure, you’re expending a lot of energy. But you’re going no where fast.
