Why Communicating Decisions is Essential

Your decisions are the currency of your leadership. How you communicate these decisions can significantly impact your leadership credibility. Answering key questions such as Why, Who, What, When, Where, and How in a clear and structured way can help you increase your leadership currency.

Key Plays for Effective Decision Communication

  1. Start with the “Why”: Explain the purpose and timing of the decision. Connect it to your team's or company's core principles.
  2. Storytell the Analysis: Share the analytical tools and frameworks used in the decision-making process to promote transparency and build trust.
  3. Be Transparent About Risks: Acknowledge that no decision is perfect and discuss potential risks and course corrections.
  4. Connect to Real People and Outcomes: Highlight who is impacted by the decision and show empathy.
  5. Explain Timing: Communicate the urgency or timing of the decision and the required changes.
  6. Memorialize the Decision: Document the decision and the rationale behind it to facilitate future course corrections and learning.
