DECISION MAKING IS EASY
Don't Allow Your Emotions To Confuse you!

DECISION MAKING IS EASY

Are you the decision maker for your company???And is that by choice or necessity???Is decision making what you expected it to be???

Deciding whether to have coffee or grape soda is not an earth-shaking question or a matter of life or death.??Now, it just so happens I like both, so it’s a little more difficult for me to make that decision than it might be for you.??To make that decision I have to consider whether it’s currently in the morning and I need something to jolt me into a reasonable picture of conciseness, or it’s a typical California winter day, 82 degrees outside, and I want to be refreshed and at the same time cooled down.??Even a non-decision maker can easily maneuver their way into making the correct decision under those circumstances.??At least I hope so.?

Unfortunately, all decisions are not black or white, or up or down, or in or out.??In a business environment the vast majority of decisions lack the simplicity of the coffee or grape soda scenario.??So, how do you, as the sophisticated businessperson that you are, negotiate your way into always making?only?the correct decisions, if that’s even possible?

Well, first let’s be somewhat realistic.??I’m afraid there is no way you will always make the ‘right’ decision.??However, with just a modicum of work and an intelligent approach you can minimize your propensity for erroring.??Try implementing these three basic decision-making suggestions and it just may minimize the potential for poor decision-making on your part.???

Never make knee-jerk decisions.

Don’t just jump into a decision.??Take whatever time you need, without being ridiculous.??Spending three to four months deciding whether brown or black shoes will look best with your blue suit is just a tad excessive.??On the flip side, feeling it is absolutely mandatory for you to always make immediate decisions can easily lead to a disastrous outcome.

Do your research.

Decisions should never be made based on a whim and a wish.??Knowing all the intricacies and variables related to your decision is an intricate element of your decision-making process and is consistently necessary prior to the execution of your final decision.??Don’t just guess, take the time to appropriately do the research each decision you make deserves.

Never make emotion-based decisions.

Of course, you must be compassionate and consider the feelings and well-being of others, however, that doesn’t mean your emotions should rule your intellect.??You can be compassionate and intellectual at the same time.??One does not negate the other.

George, after extensive training, still does not complete his tasks in an acceptable or timely manner.??His inept work habits hamper the entire department and are costing the company a small fortune.??George has been warned time and time again, and has been trained and re-trained.??So, what are you doing about this situation???Could it be that you’re not taking any further action related to George because he cried on your shoulder as he sobbingly let you know his wife just divorced him and he’s now forced to live with his invalid brother.

Your emotions are controlling your intellect.??Whether George needs to be moved to another division with less difficult tasks or needs to be terminated, a decision must be made.??Postponing your decision is simply you’re rationalizing that more time should be taken to give George another chance. That thinking is caused by your emotions pushing your intellect to an obscure corner of your mind.

More detrimental issues in companies are directly related to emotional decisions than to any other singular factor.??Be compassionate but use your intellect, not emotions to make your decisions.
