How Kiva Zip changed how I think of my morning coffee?

Kiva founder Jessica Jackley spoke about her journey into the world of philanthropy thru microfinance and its ability to rapidly change the face of giving.

       I was compelled to join others in lending through Kiva . And work to spread the word about micro lending here in San Francisco CA.

Empowering those that have a solid goal has continued to expand this idea into an unstoppable system of lending that has financial institutes and leaders from around the globe singing its praise.

 While working on a project to fund Education and Empowerment in Africa I was speaking with a developer about ways to embed microfinance into tablets our goal is to empower and educate developing areas by partnering with African Internet pioneers that are bringing access to remote areas with the Kio Kit education tools from BRCK

While brainstorming with developers from around the world I had reached out to about the power of kiva to change communities ,I was asked the obvious question that I had not even asked myself about kiva loans.

What about your own community?

In an effort to change the world I failed to remember that my own backyard, is also a part of that "Global" community I hoped to change.

        With a simple search on the lending site I quickly found that giving can happen in your own neighborhood with lending programs like  www.zip.kiva.org I was able to find some inspirational stories right here in San Francisco. It was an amazing experience sitting in Emo's Place the very coffee shop that was being financed by kiva. and joining the lending team while admiring the new floor that had just been installed.

Local lending through kiva zip lets you support a business not just with a few dollars. But even more importantly you are becoming a customer and are an important part of build a support team of lenders that is so important to small business owners like Eman.

While drinking coffee with a friend I started my journey into the world of local lending.

Who will you help in your own community?

It is easy in the new digital world to become disconnected to those around us , Our world has never been more connected ,yet we have created a divide with the very tools that also give us the ability to connect the world.

Although we as a generation have only begun to see the potential that these new business models hold, microfinance lending may just become the solution to the worlds failing systems,

Is it possible something as simple as sharing can change the world?

The current banking structure depends on the masses to remain content with the way things are going. If we all decide to invest in a better way, and take a minute to think about our purchasing decisions and the power they have if we all spend with our own personal causes in mind. We could collectively lift each other up with the power of spending

I have redirected the power of the dollar to a woman owned business in my neighborhood , I know that the money will be put directly back into the community and go to improve the lives of others, As the loans are paid the money stays in the kiva system . Taking the power of the dollar back from the banking system and putting it back in the hands of a system that is quickly replacing Greed with Giving.

I am excited to share the transformative power of microfinance and hope that others will wake up to the power that can realize that we are all the same.

I hope you will all join me on my journey to bring empowerment to the world through technology. The class systems are in place to keep the top separate. Its just an illusion.
