Decide Fast, Connect Deeper

Decide Fast, Connect Deeper

High-performance teams have a secret: how they connect in making decisions.

Top teams decide better and faster. With good people and information, decisions come quickly due to less uncertainty. They avoid analysis paralysis and confidently make calls.

Why, because team members feel the connection between them. Teams need to trust each other to take risks and move fast. This isn’t about forced team building but creating a shared understanding of decision making and problem-solving.

Decision process mapping is effective. It gives teams a co-created view of their processes, helping everyone understand their role and support decisions efficiently. The result? Compelling decisions that team members are eager to implement. They’re bought in, clear on the process, and engaged.

A rule of thumb: teams with strong decision making and connections achieve 80% of goals 20% faster than others. It’s about working smarter together.

To improve your team, consider:

  • What slows down your decision making?
  • Do team members trust each other enough to take risks?
  • Is there a shared understanding of how decisions are made?

As a C-Suite Leader you know building a high-performance team takes time and effort, but the rewards in productivity, innovation, and satisfaction are significant. Your answers to these questions should indicate areas which might need more of your attention.

As a Risk Leader, taking a broader interest in governance, in particular, how key decisions are made and how they flow through the organisation, should be on your 2025 agenda if not on it already.

Good question Meredith Caelli . I say "No" PROVIDED both connecting the team and creating a clear, agreed decision framework with appropriate oversight and decision support tool is done very well. I don't see that very often!

Thanks for sharing. Is the trend for people working remotely adversely impacting on a team's outcomes by decreasing the connections between members? Does it slow down decision making?
