Deceptive Advertising a Peril
Literally, it makes me burst into laughter when I see adds of creams guaranteeing fairness. How can people be so obsessed, is life all about looking “Gora Gora” (fair)?.
Advertisements project fallacy and promote stereotypes in our society. Fairness is a much-desired trait and guarantees success this is a fallacy. Advertisers manipulate people’s psyche, advertising is a multimillion-dollar industry. They create the want by persuading the target audience. Often young people are targeted as they comprise the vulnerable group who can be easily led and convinced.
Critics of advertising are of the view that such advertising to children is illusory and should be banned. Advertisers should act responsibly and not exploit the susceptible minds.
As consumers, we need to be more cautious and avoid falling prey to the fallacies projected by the advertisers. It is also the key responsibility of the parents to guide their children about making the right choices and to protect them from the potential harmful effects of advertising. As a society, we need to get rid of such stereotypes that promote such myths.
