Why run a Verida Storage Node?

Verida is the leading privacy focused storage solution for web3. We believe private storage infrastructure is the next growth area for web3.

Web2 offers abundant storage options, but web3’s unique needs demand specific solutions.

Existing decentralized storage models such as Filecoin, Sia, and Arweave are robust for public data, but fall short for private personal data. Verida fills this gap by addressing speed, authentication, encryption, and regulatory issues in private data storage.

This is a chance for node operators to gain exposure to emerging, high growth use cases such as compliant DeFi, RWAs, credentials, healthcare and enterprise data management.

We are working with a growing ecosystem of partners such as Polygon ID, Redbelly Network, zkPass, cheqd and others to make this happen.

The Verida Storage Node Network

The Verida protocol provides an open source Storage Node server that provides encrypted, authenticated database storage for Verida accounts on the network.

The Storage Node network is global with a region-aware design. It empowers users to control their data storage location in accordance with their geographic preference and regulatory needs.

By default, the Verida Wallet selects storage nodes in the user’s country or region, ensuring regulatory compliance. Users, however, have the freedom to change these nodes or even host their own, allowing for true data sovereignty.

The technology also enables the “right to be forgotten.” Users can delete their data from storage nodes or remove their identity and data entirely from the network.

This level of control over data storage and deletion is unprecedented and vital for the widespread adoption of this technology in mature, regulated industries. For instance, social media and health care.

The Storage Node Foundational Release

Storage nodes are currently operated across multiple global regions by the Verida Foundation. You can track node statistics on the Network Explorer.

This has allowed the Verida team to monitor performance, gather analytics and rapidly improve reliability on the Acacia Testnet. We are now preparing to open up the network to third party node operators.

The foundational release will target a mixture of node operators across different data centres, different regions. We aim to accommodate and incorporate both small, medium and large operators to support the Verida network.

These foundational members will be rewarded for their participation and are expected to work closely with the Verida team to ensure our documentation, tooling and protocol are meeting our delivery objectives of the network.

Storage nodes will be brought online in staged cohorts as the Verida team learns and receives feedback on deployment processes, availability, security, real world usage, payments and incentives.
