In November, the UK Government announced £4.5bn in funding for British Manufacturing (key points below). Nissan and their key partners announced a £2bn investment in its Sunderland plant to build three electric models and our brand new Productivity Index went live. Our team has crunched a range of data provided by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) to create a five-year picture of output and productivity for the whole UK manufacturing sector including a Q3 2023 summary. Something we'll be keeping up to date each quarter going forward.???

Among others, the UK Automotive sector is set to benefit from this year's Autumn Statement

The Autumn Statement: UK Government to Invest £4.5 Billion in British Manufacturing From 2025

On the 22nd of November, the Chancellor set out the Government's spending and taxation plans in the Autumn Statement. Many have regarded this year's statement as an important milestone for UK manufacturers.?Key points include:

?? Full Expensing: 100% of capital allowances on qualifying plant and machinery investments, and for every £1 that a business invests in IT, machinery and equipment, they can claim back 25p in corporation tax.?

?? R&D Tax Relief: Plans announced to introduce a simplified R&D tax relief combining the existing R&D expenditure credit and SME scheme.?

?? Made Smarter Scheme: The Made Smarter scheme is being expanded to all of England in 2025, before working with the devolved nations to explore making it UK-wide from 2026/7. ?? Investment Zones: Confirmation of the next set of investment zones in Greater Manchester, the West Midlands, and the East Midlands.

?? Skills and Apprenticeships: £50m announced over the next two years to increase the availability of apprentices in engineering and other key growth sectors.?

UK Manufacturing Productivity Soars: £9.4bn Yearly Increase Recorded in Q3

?FourJaw's quarterly analysis of ONS data shows that UK manufacturers have achieved significant output and productivity improvements, despite a slight slowdown in activity this summer. The UK manufacturing sector was 6.6% more productive in the third quarter of 2023 than the same period in 2022, driven primarily by improvements in the automotive, aerospace and broader transport equipment sectors.??

Nissan has announced big plans and investments for its factories in the North East

An early Christmas present from Nissan as it leads a £2bn investment in UK electric car plant

Just over a week ago, Nissan along with its partners announced a £2bn plan to build three electric car models at its Sunderland factory in the UK. The firm will build electric Qashqai and Juke models at the plant alongside the next generation of the electric Leaf, which is already produced there. The scheme could help preserve the jobs of about 6,000 workers directly, and thousands more across the UK.

Great news for the UK Automotive sector, wider supply chain and the people across the North East!
