The EAU supports smoke-free and aerosol-free environments in the EU
Tobacco consumption remains a leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality in the European Union. The EAU has joined forces with 14 health organisations to support the EU Commission's proposal for smoke-free and aerosol-free environments. Chair of the EAU Policy Office Prof. Hein Van Poppel (BE), comments: “With tobacco increasing the risk of urological cancers such as bladder and kidney cancer, the EAU is fully supportive of this policy approach towards a tobacco-free generation, which we know is an effective one”. EAU Patient Office in the news: Prioritising prostate health in the black community
Chairman of the EAU Patient Office, Prof. Eamonn Rogers (IE) had an article published this month addressing the increased risk of PCa in black men, and the proactive measures being taken to raise awareness and reduce stigma. Prof. Rogers: "Currently, there is a lack of data in clinical trials for black patients. A large proportion of treatment and diagnostics for PCa has been based on data for white patients, which negatively impacts the healthcare of black patients. We are developing a patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) study focused on PCa care for black men of African and Caribbean descent." Read the full article here.

Report: Global (ES)GURS-ESAU24 meeting draws large audience
Organisers and participants were well served by the three days of live surgical demonstrations on show at the recent Global (ES)GURS-ESAU24 meeting in Antwerp. In this article, co-organiser Prof. Gunter De Win (BE) shares meeting highlights: “The focus very much lay on the global aspect of reconstructive surgery: what may be a rare pathology in our part of the world may be daily practice for colleagues elsewhere, and vice-versa. For instance Dr. Evelyn Moshokoa from South Africa illustrated this by comparing the latest 100 cases of urethral reconstruction from Pretoria, Antwerp, Washington DC and Malang in Indonesia. Rather than showcasing how well we were all doing, it was more a case of teaching each other, and that was appreciated by all.”?Read the full report here.
