December Mighty Motivation

An 8 minute read.

Welcome to the December Mighty Motivation Newsletter to keep you sane over Christmas and the New Year

Neuroscience and coffee: During lockdown I satisfied my curiosity and love of all things brain related and neuroscience, by taking the Neuroscience and Brain health qualification with Dr Sarah McKay (highly recommend her amazing courses).

The latest news out from Sarah this week is that studies show that moderate levels of caffeine (equivalent to about three cups a day) were associated with reduced risk or slower decline towards dementia.??

And (this is the crucial bit) these were people already showing signs of memory loss or cognitive decline. Coffee appeared to slow the dementia process.??? YAY I say. Read the FULL ARTICLE HERE for reasons to keep drinking the brown stuff: :?

Plants & Flowers: Brighten up your day with flowers and plants in 2023.? Christmas trees and decorations have that feel-good factor don’t they, providing not only a dopamine hit, improving mood and igniting positive memories. So why not carry it on into the New Year?

I met up with a few coaching colleagues last week, one of which had read my book, in particular the “Environment” section and has started to buy herself flowers on a regular basis.? Her mum has even taken up this habit too!? She says it make her feel great and is now part of her self love and self care routine which I love. Add to some plants into your life (work and home) too and look out for the benefits!

Accountability and Full Moons: Accountability has been key for me this year. Not only being part of a wonderful group of coaches run by the brilliant Joanna Lott ACC , but having my gorgeous accountability buddies Lorraine Eivers and Julia Bend for water cooler moments and laughter.? Plus, having an accountability partner at work boosts success by 95%!

Julia sent me this note today about the latest full moon which was yesterday, so if you are in to crystals (still sitting on the fence....nearly there), they need to go out to bathe in the moonlight over the next few days.

Thank you Healing Energy Tools for this insight:

Full Moon in Gemini, December 7th, 2022:? The Full Moon in Gemini is a game changer.? Now is the time to celebrate your life.? Celebrate your victories.? Even the smallest of accomplishments are worth noting.? Focus on what is working in your life.? Things may not be as exactly the way you want it.? However, you see the present as the perfect path. All power is in the here and now.? Get into the driver seat.? Take charge of your life.

I really love this, always easy to forget to celebrate success and focus on what is working rather than not!

Affirmations: I have used affirmations for a few years now and have them to thank for a more positive mindset (without ever forgetting about toxic positivity!)

When I am working with my clients, there are always unhelpful beliefs that get in the way that I work with them to clear, like weeds and I help them create affirmations that are personal to them which are very useful because they can quite literally change the way we think.

So......another addition is coming in the form of an e-book "The Little Book Of Affirmations (and how to write your own)", my festive gift for a more positive mindset in 2023. Watch this space...

Why create a Vision Board for 2023?: I have been creating vision boards since 2017 and they have been the reason I have done more with my life than ever before. I would go as far as to say I had been meandering through life rather than being intentional about it.

So if you are interested in finding out what a Vision Board is, interested in getting a taste of what my I am like and my coaching is like and want to:

Get unstuck: Think about what it is you really want: Want a daily visual reminder of your goals, dreams and aspirations: Want to feel motivated, excited and fired up about the coming year: And….want to have a bit of fun (and no you don’t need to be creative), then come along to one of my Vision Board sessions, more INFO HERE

?Follow your dreams whatever age you are: “Without dreams and goals there is no living, only merely existing, and that is not why we are here.” Mark Twain

One of the most feel-good things that I have seen on social media in the last few months (and possibly this year) is this gorgeous little chap:? couture.to.the.max - a haute couture dress maker who is 6 years old!? I love the ideas that he comes up with and the amazing combinations of colours and textures he creates…find him over on IG and TT to inspire your creativity!? If he can do that at 6 years old, just imagine what is possible....

Grief: This time for many is just downright difficult for us all for so many reasons.

Whether you are mourning the illness or death of a family member, like a parent, grandparent or sibling, the death of a friend, or someone you knew at school, college or university, the death of someone you work with, the death of a trusted adult in your life, such as a sports coach, or teacher, the death of someone by suicide, the death of a significant public figure, a change in a relationship, an illness of someone close to you, like cancer or dementia (mourning my dad who has Alzheimers), the loss of a relationship, like someone moving away or no longer being in your life regularly, estrangement or the loss or death of a pet animal, my heart goes out to you.

The Good Grief Trust and National Grief Awareness Week this week (2nd to 8th December 2022) was set up to raise awareness of the impact of grief.

Grief needs immediate acknowledgement and the trust want to raise awareness of the breadth of support in the UK available and to encourage us to reach out more for help. I have been reaching out this year and it has made a real difference to my mental health.

Whoever you have lost or are losing you need time and space to grief and come to terms with their death or what is happening right now.

I was introduced to a really great book this year “Beyond Blue: Creative Approaches to Releasing Grief and Flying Free” which I highly recommend and a course that has also been useful for me to discover more of the creativity inside me: the author Valerie Andrews takes you on a creative journey using different tools and methods to tap into your creative inspiration and sources of creativity within you.

I highly recommend doing this course if you have been craving some kind of creative outlet, knowing you have a creative ability in art, music, craft etc, but perhaps haven't had the confidence or put the time aside to explore it further. This course would also be a very thoughtful gift for any friends/family/colleagues who may have suffered loss. MORE DETAILS HERE

Journalling: 9 months ago I wrote a post about journaling and the many benefits which include: Helping reduce stress and anxiety, allowing us to clarify our thoughts and feelings, resulting in gaining valuable self-knowledge and helping with problem-solving - when you write out a problem and come up with solutions, it can sometimes be easier written on a piece of paper.

Writing about challenging events helps one process them by fully exploring and releasing the emotions involved.? I also get asked a lot how to journal so I created a special ebook “The Little Book Of Journal Prompts (when you don’t know what to write”)) which takes you through journaling in more detail, how to do it and gives you 50 prompts to get you in writing flow!? Watch this space for my Chistmas gift to you before the big day, it is just getting the final touches..

Newsletter recommendations: I have loved reading many newsletter’s this year, one of my favourites has been from James Routledge who founded Sanctus Coaching.? Heartfelt, humorous and real, a great read for both women and men and looking forward to promoting his book when it is out as I am sure it is going to be great for helping men with their mental health - Look out for Jack the lad, Bridget Jones’s Diary for Men when James has finished writing it......LINK TO NEWSLETTER HERE

Do you believe in syncronicities and nudges?: I loved reading in Mel Robbins newsletter this week “The story I just shared is pretty remarkable, but I believe there are signs, magic, and simple miracles all around you all the time in your day-to-day life – if you’re willing to see them.

I do too, I call them nudges and they make me smile when they happen (don’t ask me to remember them all though!).?

Well there was the time that a pair of rollerskates ended up on my vision board and I got a nudge to go to Decathelon one day (never been to this particular branch either).?

There was one pair of roller skates in the whole shop would you believe it, and they were size 4.5 and I am 5.5.? But I tried them on and do you know what, they fitted perfectly!? Now sycronicity/nudge or no sycronicity/nudge it gave me goosebumps at the time……I now follow the nudges whenever I can! Like the nudge to write my first book and my two new e-books…

A great read as always Lara Doherty and some amazing tips and recommendations. I love that my 3 cups of coffee are actually doing me the world of good. A lovely touch to add the section on grief as so many are touched by this emotion particularly at this time of year. ??
