December Week 2: Glasgow and Liverpool Hotels report strong performance in November.

Hotels in both cities experienced higher occupancy and increased rates compared to November of the previous year.

Hotels in Glasgow and Liverpool achieved the highest revenue per available room (RevPAR) growth across the UK in November, showcasing remarkable year-over-year improvements, according to the latest data from HotStats.

Both cities saw RevPAR increase by approximately 30%, with Glasgow reaching £90.15 and Liverpool slightly higher at £90.41. These figures underscore the robust demand in these regional markets, driven by a mix of leisure and business travel.

While Glasgow and Liverpool led in growth, London continued to dominate with the highest RevPAR overall. The capital recorded an impressive £180.46 in November as tourists flocked to enjoy the festive atmosphere and holiday attractions.

Not all cities saw such success. Birmingham and Manchester were the only major urban markets to report declines in occupancy compared to November 2023. Birmingham experienced a 2.9% drop to 80.7%, while Manchester's occupancy slipped by 1.4% to 80.2%. RevPAR growth in these cities was also modest, with Birmingham and Manchester posting increases of less than 4%—the smallest gains nationwide.

Liverpool led the nation in occupancy growth, surging by 7.7%, followed closely by Glasgow at 7.5% and Bristol at 7.2%. These cities capitalised on strong demand, showcasing their appeal during the season.

Average daily rates (ADR) also rose across the board, with Glasgow and Liverpool once again outpacing their peers. Glasgow’s ADR jumped 18.7% to £110.20, while Liverpool saw an equivalent increase to £111.30. These significant ADR gains contributed to the standout RevPAR performance in both cities.

Overall, November marked a strong month for UK hotels, particularly in Glasgow and Liverpool, which set themselves apart as top performers.

Conclusion

In conclusion, November proved to be a standout month for Glasgow and Liverpool's hotel markets, with both cities achieving significant growth in occupancy, ADR, and RevPAR. Their impressive performance not only highlights their resilience and appeal but also sets a benchmark for regional hotel markets across the UK. While London retained its position as the top revenue generator, Glasgow and Liverpool demonstrated that strategic regional markets could drive exceptional results. As the festive season and year-end travel trends continue, these cities are well-positioned for sustained success in the coming months.
