December, electrified: How Porsche charges into the new year

The world has entered the electric age, and with our Taycan and Macan models, you can experience the Porsche E-Performance for yourself. However, the increasing electrification may leave many e-mobility newcomers with a ton of questions. But don't worry, we have you covered. Introducing the Porsche Charging Weeks and the cross-brand communication campaign "Enter Electric!" this edition of Porsche Spotlight aims to answer all those questions and also takes you for a spin on a very special range challenge with the Taycan.

But that's not all. 2024 was the year with our largest model offensive and December was no exception. Let's highlight the second treat resulting from our cooperation with Frauscher Boats , the all-electric sports boat Porsche 850 Fantom. However, with this year coming to a close, it is also time to reminisce on everything that this year had to offer. Our little review is accompanied by a very special treat: the'Porsche Heritage Moments', a new four-part video series, featuring brand ambassador and Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard who introduces you to the history of the Porsche Turbo and talks to people who helped to develop this technology.

Last but not least, for those already looking ahead, we dive into the topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) together with Porsche Engineering and ask about the status quo for automobile development.

Enjoy the last Porsche Spotlight of 2024 and see all of you save and sound in 2025!

The 大众 including Porsche has started a cross-brand communication campaign to share more details about electromobility. The Enter Electric! campaign aims to provide an in-depth look into the possibilities offered by electric cars. A central component for us are the Porsche Charging Weeks that explain many facts to those who might have a lot of questions regarding the future of driving.

Porsche focuses on a trio of drive systems: fully electric cars, efficient plug-in hybrids and emotive combustion engines. In the fully electric segment, we have recently launched the Macan as our second all-electric model, alongside the Taycan.

A fast way to answer all questions about charging an electric car is our new Charging at Porsche microsite. Here, readers will find information on topics such as charging at home, the Porsche Charging Planner and an overview of all the on-the-go charging options.

A second microsite comprehensively summarises all topics on Electromobility at Porsche.

“Electric cars have too small a range and charging isn’t really practical.” Does this sound familiar to you? When it comes to electromobility, these are two of the main concerns that are repeatedly voiced.??

To dispel them, we created the Taycan 1,111-km Challenge, a one-day trial through Germany and Austria. The task for the media who attended was to visit all four Porsche Charging Lounges:

  • Koblach, near Lake Constance in Austria
  • Bingen am Rhein in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
  • Würzburg in Franconia, Germany
  • Ingolstadt in Upper Bavaria, Germany?

In a best-case scenario, the distance is exactly 1,111 kilometres. Charging at non-Porsche stations was prohibited during the drive. The special thing about this challenge was that the fixed charging points are not the fastest way to cover this distance, so instead the focus was on driving style and charging strategy.

Driving more than 1,000 km in one day is a challenge, regardless of the powertrain type, so each of the six Taycan models taking part had a team of two drivers. The cars used were the Sport Sedan, Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo in 4S, Turbo or Turbo S form. All of the cars had a range approaching the 600 km mark according to the WLTP.

What are the learnings and results of the challenge?

  • Total distance covered by six Taycan models over three days: 20,000 km
  • Fastest car: a Taycan 4S Cross Turismo****
  • Time taken by the fastest pair, including charging: 11 hours
  • Average energy consumption by fastest pair's Taycan 4S Cross Turismo****: 25?kWh/100 km
  • Average speed of fastest pair: more than 100?km/h
  • Total energy consumed by the Taycan in the challenge: 320?kWh
  • Total cost: 125 euros (the petrol for a comparable combustion-engined car would have cost at least twice as much)

We are committed to being a leader in sustainable mobility, and an ambition that is not limited to road cars and racing alone.

Together with the renowned Frauscher Boats Shipyard in Austria, we have developed an electric boat that is also intended to impress on the water with its quintessential Porsche performance – impressive acceleration, abundant thrust, confident performance, timeless design and luxurious equipment.

After the open day cruiser 850 Fantom Air, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom now comes as a classic runabout with a closed foredeck and cabin. What makes it so special: the new sports boat also features the all-electric drive unit from the Porsche Macan Turbo Electric*****.

Frauscher X Porsche 850 Fantom
“Like our sports cars, the eFantom offers an exclusive experience and extraordinary performance. As an elegant day cruiser with an innovative, powerful drive system, she sets new standards in the maritime world." - Lutz Meschke , Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board and Board Member for Finance and IT

While two-door Porsche sports cars are available as coupés and convertibles, among other variants, Frauscher offers a choice between the Runabout and the Air – in other words, between a closed foredeck, a classic look, a cabin under the bow and a centre helm with seating and lounging options on the bow as well. The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom is now also available as part of the limited First Edition of 25 units.

If you're keen to find out more, the following article explains the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom in detail:

Figure of the month:

62 hectares: Since 2017, we have supported Trinkwasserwald e.V. . The partnership has resulted in 62 hectares of mixed deciduous forest being planted in Leipzig and the Stuttgart region to promote high-quality groundwater and drinking water. To date, we have also donated a total of 1.6 million euros.

This past year alone, four joint tree-planting campaigns took place, with about 180 employees from across the company planting approximately 5,600 trees.

Artificial intelligence is bringing massive changes to all areas of life, including development. What are the opportunities and limitations of the new technology?

Markus-Christian Eberl , CEO of Porsche Engineering , and Dr. Matthias Peissner, Head of the Human-Technology Interaction Research Unit at the Fraunhofer IAO in Stuttgart, offer insights.

Dr. Matthias Peissner and Markus-Christian Eberl
“The magnitude of the impending changes can by all means be compared with the industrial revolution.” Markus-Christian Eberl

Eberl illustrates that “in companies, AI works in multiple directions: It makes processes more efficient, which increases speed and provides cost benefits. At the same time, we can increase the performance and effectiveness of our products, for example in the form of new, innovative features or an improvement in product quality. We can therefore be faster, more economical, and better with AI.”

“I really believe that in the future we will have artificial intelligence that is superior to humans in some respects.” Dr. Matthias Peissner

“Perhaps this will even happen this decade,” says Peissner. “But the question will be: Can 90 percent of the population still understand this progress – or will AI become a topic for a small elite? I think that this is an important task for the future: We must ensure that technology serves everyone.”

More than five decades ago, Porsche tested the exhaust turbocharger in motorsport. Shortly afterwards, we introduced the turbocharger into series production. 17 of the 19 overall Porsche victories at Le Mans were won with turbocharged engines. In 2024, we celebrated ‘50 years of Porsche Turbo’ in series production.

More than eough reasons to dedicate four episodes of the ‘Porsche Heritage Moments’ series to this topic.

911 Turbo 50 Years*************

Timo Bernhard, Le Mans winner and long-distance world champion, guides viewers through the episodes, shows off selected Porsche sports cars and lets exciting guests have their say. Dear Porsche Customer Service Team, I recently had conversations with Mr. Deniz from Istanbul Do?u? Oto Customer Relations and Mr. Serkan from Izmir Vosmer Oto. During these discussions, I was informed that the Porsche ID number for my 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S could not be provided. However, I would like to emphasize that I do not wish to use my vehicle in guest mode each time I access it. My request is simply to obtain the Porsche ID number so I can fully utilize my vehicle without needing an internet or GSM connection. I believe this request does not pose any security concerns, as it is merely a straightforward user information query. The current situation has led to some disappointment and has caused me to question my trust in the brand, which I have greatly valued. I kindly ask for your assistance in providing my Porsche ID number and trust that you will handle this matter with a customer-focused approach. Thank you in advance for your understanding and support. Sincerely, Murat Orta? Owner of a 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S
