MCD CEO and President Announces Retirement in 2025

After 34 years of exceptional service to MCD Global Health, Dr. Christopher Schwabe has announced his retirement as CEO and president, effective July 1, 2025.

"In my time at MCD, I have witnessed firsthand many remarkable changes and growth within the organization, and the substantial impact we’ve had with our partners in helping to improve the health and well-being of people at local, national, and global levels. I am deeply proud of the work we’ve accomplished together, and I am immensely grateful to my colleagues for their dedication, passion, and support."

MCD's Response to the 2024 World Malaria Report

Read our response to the recently released World Health Organization 2024 World Malaria Report.

The report found that progress toward reducing malaria has continued to stagnate with a staggering?263 million cases and nearly 600,000 deaths reported in 2023. Despite this, millions of cases and deaths are estimated to have been averted by existing control strategies, continuing with the positive trend since 2000.


Improving Care for People Living with HIV/AIDS

H?pital d'Instruction des Armées Omar Bongo Ondimba (HIAOBO), the main hospital of the Gabonese army in Libreville, Gabon.

Through the U.S. Department of Defense HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP), MCD is helping Gabon achieve the UN 95-95-95 goals with innovative and scalable approaches such as decentralizing care.

Four new pilot military health facilities in Gabon have begun offering care to people living with HIV/AIDS, thanks to efforts from MCD and Gabon's Programme Militaire de Lutte Contre le Sida and?Ministry of Health.


Employers: Help Expand Community Health Worker Workforce

MCD leads the training and advancement of the community health worker (CHW) profession in Maine through specialized CHW training programs! Our CHW Apprenticeship Program, implemented through a HRSA grant, is certified by the Maine Department of Labor.

As part of the program, your organization can prepare and mold its future workforce. Apprentice CHWs in your organization can perform required duties while also learning needed skills for higher-level performance.


MCD Staff Participated in ASTMH Annual Conference

In November, MCD staff presented a total of 13 posters on malaria, HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, and more at the annual ASTMH conference in New Orleans!


Improving the Health and Well-being of Rural Communities

November 21 was National Rural Health?Day! MCD has a long history of working to improve health and well-being among those who live in rural areas.


New Resources Help Develop Oral Health Professionals

Around the world, accessing dental care remains a challenge, negatively impacting the health and well-being of children and adults. MCD is pleased to announce new, free virtual resources to support current and prospective oral health professionals.

New Grant to Expand Reach of MCD’s Behavioral Health Services

MCD received a five-year, $475,000 per year Technology-enabled Collaborative Learning Program (TCLP) award from the Health Resources and Services Administration with the goal of expanding the reach and impact of MCD’s behavioral health programs through Project ECHO? and other technologies.
