Ideas Competition - Winners Announced!
The Derby Entrepreneurship Center at Tufts hosted the Ideas Competition last Thursday evening. This fully hybrid event welcomed audience members, teams, and judges to join either in-person or remotely. The theme was "Tackling Problems Worth Solving," and it was exciting to listen to each of the 10 teams identify and solve a unique problem. The winning teams shared their plans for growing from idea to impact and why they chose these compelling problems to solve. Congratulations to our winning teams: Equiballot, Malikat Project, Yummy Greens, Tylt, and ShapeUp.

Entrepreneurial Speaker Series?
We wrapped up the Entrepreneurial Speaker Series for the semester with three high-powered speakers:?Kathy Linhares ?on Marketing and CX,?Steve Ng, E86 ?on Product Development, and?Josh Kapelman, A12 ?(who is also a Member of the Board of Advisors at DEC) capped the series on a high note with his talk on Team and Culture.
For his talk with our Introduction to Making students on the Hamboards Surfskate case, Steve sent us a sample skateboard. Our student Leo Terry made a video showing what the new truck design can do. Have a look!
Montle Prize - Recipients Announced!
Paul Montle (Class of 1969) created the Montle Prize for Entrepreneurial Achievement to commend outstanding undergraduate Tufts students who demonstrate entrepreneurial skills. We are excited to announce this year's recipients:
This award is for undergraduate students with an entrepreneurial mindset and skillset, acquired through entrepreneurship courses, co-curricular events, competitions, and/or from experience working either individually or in a team on a new venture. This award is offered through the Derby Entrepreneurship Center (DEC)
Jumbo Magazine Highlights Entrepreneurship at Tufts
The Fall 2022 edition of the Jumbo magazine contained a feature on entrepreneurship education at Tufts, spotlighting the variety of courses available through the Derby Entrepreneurship Center.
Scope Tennis Raises $500k in Pre-Seed Funding
Tufts Venture Accelerator 2022 team, Scope Tennis, recently raised $500k in pre-seed funding as they prepare for their upcoming beta test and launch. Scope Tennis, founded by Laurent Isnard and Maximilian Stehling, is a fan engagement platform that runs on a blockchain and uses NFTs as player cards.
Alex Rappaport and Natalie Rubio Selected to Prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30
Alex Rappaport, E17, EG 19, past Tufts $100k New Ventures Competition winner, and Cofounder of ZwitterCo was named to the?2023 Manufacturing and Industry list ?for his company's innovative work in wastewater filtration.
Natalie Rubio EG22, was named to the?2023 Science list ?for her efforts in advancing cellular agriculture, including her research and experience in growing cells for cultivated meat.
We applaud Natalie and Alex for their contributions towards a sustainable future!?
Brittany Sokoloff named as Partner in the complex litigation group at ArentFox Schiff
Brittany Sokoloff, A11 was recently named as one of 13 new partners at ArentFox Schiff, effective January 1, 2023. Brittany graduated with a minor in Entrepreneurship and is active in the Tufts Entrepreneurial Network, an alumni group associated with the Derby Entreprneurship Center.
